No problem. No one actually lives in Nebraska.

It is more of a national grassland if I remember right.

My grandparents used to tell stories about the grass fires and how the fire would tear through the grass and cover the whole horizon in a blink of the eye if the wind was pushing it.

Grass is so dry right now I suppose the only hope is that the drought has kept much grass from growing.

So, that sounds like it's a good thing? Isn't prairie grass supposed to burn occasionally to keep the invasives out since natural grasses have 10' deep roots?

I'd guess a grass fire is a good thing the same way a controlled burn is good for forests.

The uncontrolled forest fires are not good.  I'm not sure if there is something in a grass fire that is equivalent to the forest fire burning so hot even the trees that *should* have survived die, but I doubt an uncontrolled grass fire in the weather we've been having is "good".

I just saw that the 4-H camp in that forest that I went to as a kid burned up over the weekend...that unexpectedly hurt my heart this morning.

That sucks. I went to some YMCA camps as a kid plus Boy Scout camps, would never like them to burn down.

/Side note my parents are not religious, even thought they sent me to YMCA and did Boy Scouts (both heavily Christian), they chose the best ones who chose kids over religion.

My parents did group things/camps with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts back in the 80's, well because most of us had sisters and we all wanted to do the best things and parents were tired of separating their time.  Took the real Scouting community 30 years to catch up to my parents and their friends.
