Concrete Donkey: How the fark do people not check things like this in 2022?

From what I've seen reported, it's because this only affected the fan used in the first runs of the Steam Deck, and DBrand was unable to secure any of those older models for testing, having only received the units using the newer fan from Valve

I'm tempted to get a Steam Deck...hell, I'm tempted to get a Steam Index.

Just not willing to drop that much coin on something I might use a few times, then put away forever.

Correct.  Valve built the steamdeck with 2 different models of fans.  The first fan they used is affected (cheaper built fan), but the later, better model fan is not.

dbrand only had the model with the newer fan style.  There is no way to determine which model you have without physically opening the steam deck, and it's most likely something dbrand didn't even know about at the time.

It's always heat dissipation issues.  Hell, hire me and I'll make sure there are no red rings of death.

Probably something that fails to manifest for some time - those issues are MFers in QA.  Still, can't fault their response at least.  "We farked up, so you get a replacement or a refund regardless of which one ya got."  Fair enough

If I didn't have to jump thru so many hoops to get Switch games ported to it, I'd probably own one already.

A Steam Deck that could play Switch games natively would be worth it's weight in gold.

love the way the whole article and subby's headline make it easy to imagine this is a "Steam Deck" problem.

like this:
widget's iphone case has a problem.
widget's iphone has a problem.

if you don't notice the difference, that's likely casue this stuff works on you.
