We notice, we just refuse to do anything about it. Because that would mean admitting the system is broken.

My guess is that they will pleasantly surprise you, but make no mistake: it's just to keep you off guard.

"See? They're not just partisans!" will be the narrative.

/It must have occurred to John Roberts that at least some of the court's power issues from its perceived independence.
//Else why obey their edicts? They have no army.

Can't wait till state laws are so different you need a visa to travel between them.

It's almost like the pre-Balkanizing prep we did on our country as we formed it wasn't really a sound long term idea.  As long as we're a bunch of little countries instead of one nation, we'll always find ways to become divided.

But it's just one of many things that needs revision in this massive cluster f*ck.
Right and wrong don't change, yet there's no uniform set of laws across the land.
Hypocritical, psychotic self righteousness in enforcement against normal folks, in moral outrage against apparently flexible rules, while the cavalcade of crime and sedition on the right is ignored.

I wish I was like the Human Beat Box, but like, the Human Constitutional Convention.

I read two separate articles last nigth about the USSC.  John Roberts is getting upset that people are losing respect for the Court and question its integrity.  Samuel Alito gets VERY butthurt when his BS is called out, and he's apparently sniped at Elena Kagen for her recent comment about Dobbs.  Alito apparently wants her, as a woman, to mind her place.  He also gets butthurt when evidence of his and the other conservative justices lies are presented.

The Court should continue to receive harsh criticism with no relief.  The President and Congress should be immensely pressured to expand the Court to 13 seats since there are 13 Circuit Courts.

What other job can you get where the chance to write four or more books a year just appear, with all the time, staff, and salary to do just that?

When you leave the "settled law" and strike out to overturn every apple cart you find, the great UnSettling needs some background books -- why not make a tidy sum by providing them.  Law is just a springboard to the Speaker Circuit and the Book Tour.  Even criminals know that very well.

The quickest solution would be to enforce the law:

Arrest and prosecute Beer Bro for his disappearing debts

Arrest and prosecute Justice Ruckus as a collaborator to insurrection

And Alito is creepy enough that he HAS to have broken some laws

It is when it's a deal to vote a certain way and/or lie in his confirmation hearings as part of the deal. Of course, proving that is a bit trickier (assuming it happened that way).

And yes, he owes the US an explanation where those funds came from.

HerptheDerp: But noooooooo we can seat more Justices, that would jeopardize the integrity of the SCOTUS or something

There are two problems with it (long term, not short):

1) The GOP will return the favor, and they won't tie themselves to a justification like "one SCOTUS justice per circuit".  They'll just spew some bullshiat while pushing up the number to whatever gets them their majority again.  Then they'll ram through some legislation that the Democratic party will respect (because reasons) that makes it incredibly difficult for this to be undone by repeal or further expansion.

2) It implicitly accepts that SCOTUS is political.  You really ought to be excluding any candidate with a known political leaning.  In theory, they're there to interpret the law not reshape it according to their political views.

Expansion gets you a breather.  It might be worth it for that, but probably not.  The underlying issue needs to be dealt with - and the system is corrupted enough that might not be possible.  After all, at least three of the SCOTUS justices should have been disqualified long before being seated, yet there they are.

I was going to say "lets see how States Rights works when you actually permanently have to deal with it"... except...

Let's be honest.  The lying Conservatives will nationalize whatever fits their Reich Wing agenda.  If a Republican Congress passes a National abortion ban?  Guess where the previous Supreme Court logic about letting the States decide will go?  In the trash bin.

The same for other Conservative agenda items.  " Let the states handle it" when they're attacking a liberal or even moderate idea, and flip to big national government control when it's religious wackos or Nationalist assholes saying it.

So the standard "We can't do X because then the other side might also do X" argument from cowardice.

The GOP will DO IT ANYWAY if we ever again get a non-MAGAT majority. If we do it NOW, we can at least stop the bleeding for a few years.

No one is talking about abolishing the rule of law, but of abolishing SCOTUS.

But regardless, what do you see as the defining difference between a political farce of a court that rules without respecting the law and 'abolishing the rule of law'?

To me it seems an awful lot like whether or not you're allowing them to maintain an air of legitimacy to further their aims.
