Homo erectus?

Homo erectus were the first men who spread out from Africa.  Homo erectus were the first men who realized that if you put half a dozen men together with pointy sticks, man need fear no wild animal.

Hail Homos!

Is that just straight out propaganda?  Google don't bring much up for "Yunxian Man" and Wikipedia doesn't even have an entry for "Yunxian Man". I'm pretty sure Wikipedia has an entry for everything.

There is a long tradition of calling hominin fossils "[some locale] man" especially in informal/popular settings. It is never a surprise to run into such terminology. That the English language Wikipedia does not have a new informal term from China is not that surprising.

Homo erectus.

Of all hominid species, erectus is our spiritual kin.  They behaved as we behave, albeit without pocket televisions.

Definitely worth a read:

Homo erectus?

Homo erectus were the first men who spread out from Africa.

You could say they extended their range, establishing a firm presence throughout Africa, even in areas where it was hard to find resources necessary for survival.

China wants to say that though their scientists know better.

This does not change that this is a very significant find.

Tracing the origins of Chinese civilization.  What a hoot.

I was reading a book about indigenous tribes in China.  Besides the natives, turns out that China has three strains of people: Manchus who moved down from the north, Cantonese who moved in from the West, and Sichuan who came from the south.  They met in the middle and formed a country, somehow.

So what's the national sport of China?  Arguing, "Who's the most Chinese?"
