Ragin' Asian: $70 to download an old game?!

Or just $20 to upgrade an existing copy, which I did because Anniversary Edition is a great upgrade for a version of Skyrim that cannot otherwise have mods. You get a ton of content-- including Survival Mode, which I feel is necessary at this point-- in that $20 upgrade.

I do think $70 is too much for it if you're buying the whole shebang, though. They should have ditched the previous version for Switch (which was essentially Special Edition) and replaced it with Anniversary Edition at the same price.

Snapper Carr: Can you mod Switch games?

Skyrim in 2022 is pointless without the ability to install enough mods to make it essentially a completely different game/break it entirely.

If you jailbreak your Switch, you can but you have such a limited assortment of mods it's not really worth it.  I'm pretty sure you get your Switch banned by doing this too, at least that's what I read.

I'd say that Skyrim can be played without mods, but you will need to save extremely frequently and keep your saves (Switch was limited to just over a hundred, IIRC.)  You'll also need to keep the Wiki handy as you'll want to read up before doing quests so you can avoid wrecking your game because of Skyrim's many, many bugs.

Oh, and yes I have Skyrim on my PC and on Xbox, but the Switch is portable and doesn't need WiFi to play Skyrim (I could play it via streaming or Xbox Cloud Gaming, but both require a strong WiFi signal; Switch is entirely local and works when I'm sitting in my car or the doctor's office or wherever, killing time.)

It's one of my favorite games of all time. I don't feel it's been a waste of money seeing how many thousands of hours I've put in over the past 11 years. I don't play MMOs or sports or CoD. But drop me in Skyrim or Fallout or Red Dead Redemption or Bully: Scholarship Edition and I'm happy.

I think I'm just getting old and crotchety. 30 years ago, I saved my lawn mowing and snow shoveling earnings for months to get an NES cartridge. Paying $70 for something that doesn't need packaging or marketing is anathema to me.

you understand that the plastic is the least expensive part of it, right?
