The police would be able to solve the mystery, but unfortunately, it's abstract.

It was 160 million, then it was two thousand dollars.  After that it was priceless.  You can't explain that.

Looks just like the "painting" my 3 year old niece did for me last weekend. I should contact a fine art gallery and get several million dollars for it.

And nobody else wanted to keep it enough to risk prison.

"steal" painting. Collect insurance. "find" painting later?

That's the reverse order. For you find a millionaire who needs to launder money, THEN you spend no effort making art.

If you make the art, then sell it, that's an NFT.

This was in our labs all over Covid, and stupid me waited too late to see it and had to wait until it was installed in our gallery.
Anyway:  We did a good job! 😉

$160M? Ppfftt. I own the NFT of this painting. I'm willing to let it go for a mere $45 bajillion. Here's a copy of the NFT, but remember, The one I send you will be the real copy!

I loved that movie, especially the piano pieces. I wanted to learn to play them but turns out it's like 3 to 5 pianos at the same time.

There is a good documentary about that.

However, there is a good documentary out on this crime in TFA called The Thief Collector.  Although I would have edited out about ten minutes here and there, I found it interesting.

The re-enactments with Glenn Howerton from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" are priceless

I guess there is a second documentary coming out, too.  The story is that interesting.

Thought it was going to be that Boston Theft. By the way, there's a film loosely inspired by that theft. You could, in theory, search YouTube for an uploaded version of this film.

Thanks.   So interesting.  I do think they stole it.   Their lives are the most interesting thing to me.   What were they up to all those years.

Woman-Ochre,' painted by Willem de Kooning in 1955 is considered an influential piece of American abstract impressionism

Ah, so it's garbage like most American "culture"

Begoggle: Sounds like the people who stole it, hung it in their bedroom, and since died.
And nobody else wanted to keep it enough to risk prison. knew enough about fine art to recognize it.

The guy who returned it bought it at an estate sale. If the people selling it knew what it was, they would have returned it, or at least marked the price up. Since it was someone else's, they could always claim they thought it was a copy if pressed by law enforcement.

/article should have had a still picture of the piece.
//Don't care for the piece or think it's worth that kind of money.

stuffy: Stole it, but was too hot to sell. Spent 40yrs just sitting on it.

They stole a bunch of other things from museums and kept them in their home as part of their personal collection, on display, even telling friends and family the things were replicas or whatever.

They may have sold some stuff, but there is no evidence and they apparently kept a fair amount if not everything.

Never got caught, presumably because no one steals casuals art just to keep for themselves.

Or they see the Art industry for what it really is - a con game, where a self elected elite manufacture a market and quality of art play no part in their money making.
