James Cameron raises the bar for other filmmakers by raising the bar.

Includes an Emmy winning TV episode by other filmmakers about James Cameron raising the bar

This is it, isn't it?  Avatar was an interesting 3D demo that - like previous but more primitive 3D attempts before it - led to a short burst of popularity for 3D among movie makers but had no real demand from movie goers.

It was not a good movie otherwise, or at the very least if it was a good movie it still only lived up to a fraction of the hype.  When the fad faded, all hope for significant public interest in a sequel faded with it.

I really can see people aggressively AVOIDING Avatar sequels.  It will be interesting to see what happens at the box office.

Not sure I want him to be a family man.  I want angry unmarried control-freak Cameron back for a film or two.

Avatar came at a time when there were few or no high profile franchises. It was basically Transformers and little else. Funny, he waited with Avatar 2 long enough that the MCU is fading and there's not a lot going on again.

Let me save you the suspense: it's going to make a billion dollars or two.

Not saying it'll deserve to, but just look at all the other bullshiat that people gladly waste their money on, such as almost every superhero movie ever made, all the Jurassic park sequels, Inception, yet ANOTHER Matrix, and on and on.

The plans for this are hilarious and give off strong Dark Monster universe and original DC lineup vibes. Looking forward to the behind-the-scenes documentary of the making of these movies (if they do actually get released). Call it "The Madness of James Cameron" or something like that. Nonzero chance they have him on tape insisting this planet and aliens are real and he's received communications from them.

/no, you may not see the communications

Wobambo: Looking forward to the behind-the-scenes documentary of the making of these movies (if they do actually get released).

The doc on the science of Titanic and what the movie got wrong was interesting... and it also showed that Cameron's a giant egomaniac who will absolutely not have anyone telling him he might not be right.  The power dynamic and the muscle-flexing around the 'open discussion' table were blatantly obvious even as he tried to appear reasonable.

Not surprised. Haven't seen that doc or heard that particular story, but Cameron has earned his nutjob reputation that's for sure. And it's probably only gotten worse with age and as he gets more obsessed with this.

I just can't wait for the wailing and gnashing of teeth of Farkers, when this movie tsunamis into the biggest box office hit of all time. At this point, the Fark Collective Hive Mind has invested so much hatred and ill will toward this movie that it will be a delicious pleasure when you're all proved cataclysmically wrong.

I've been screengrabbing all the best comments over the last year, so I can delight in re-posting them. Ah, the nectar of your fury, denial, and sudden amnesia will be so sweet it will overwhelm my liver and give me instant diabetes.

Still don't want to see it.

\Anymore than I wanted to see the first Avatar.
\\Which I didn't.

Yes, money. Money from masses of people eagerly buying tickets, because they want to see it. Something that Fark has been furiously denying now for years, in thread after thread.

Have you seen Ferngully or Dances with Wolves? Then you've seen Avatar.

This makes me want to see this film even less. I only watched Avatar once it was on DVD and ours that was because of Rifftrax.

Avatar is overrated. I bet it looked amazing in 3D on the big screen, but that is all it had.

With your reasoning, people will line up to see 4 more Gone With the Wind movies at the expense of 10-12 hours of their lives.

That article had its tongue so far up Cameron's ass it was French kissing him.

FTFA: Ahead of the upcoming sequel, the 2009 sci-fi epic wowed with $30 million worldwide in ticket sales, as reported on Sept. 25.

30 million worldwide is pathetic. Hell, 30 million in the US isn't "wowed." It made 10.5 million in the US the weekend of its re-release. Good enough for third, but not farking wowed.

The hype is manufactured.  They are paying for ad placement.  I just searched youtube for a Gumby clip, which is unrelated, and Avatar advertisements were right there.

This may be a stupid question but why isn't James Cameron leasing out his technology to nature documentaries?

A 3d jump scare would be so awesome if it were a real thing that was happening, like a large cat choking me with its large teeth or something like that.

//just kidding

Because then it wouldn't be about James Cameron.

Still way behind the number of threads we used to get about Paris Hilton and Nickleback. Sometimes the easiest way to drive traffic to an Entertainment headline is to baffle and annoy Farkers with a constant inundation of headlines about a topic that most of them don't care for. It's similar to the "Hey, what is THIS doing here?" response someone makes after finding dog poop on their front porch.
