Russia's military cannot do what Putin wants

after Putin's speech he justified using nukes since "America did it"  completely ignoring the reasons and what was happening at the time.  if you want to be historically accurate, Ukraine should be the ones with the same justification to use Nukes and force Russia to end the war.

TBH, if Putin uses a nuke, i cannot think of a better target then Snake Island.  or scorched earth by going after Kyiv

There are newer maps showing Ukraine's forces contesting the area to the east of Zarichne on that map. Even if they don't fully control the corridor there, any major withdrawal from Lyman is likely to be in range not just of artillery, but potentially even of mortars and some small arms at this point, making withdrawal with heavy equipment (artillery, tanks and BMPs) almost certainly impossible.

There are videos purportedly of Russians fleeing overland on foot, which might be the safest option for them. This also means potentially a lot more salvaged heavy equipment for Ukraine, if the Russians once again to forget to disable it before fleeing.

When America dropped the bomb, there was no Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.  America wasn't bound by any international law at the time.  If Putin uses nukes, he's saying that russia will never honor any treaty it signs with anyone, which essentially ends russia on the world stage.

You say that like America currently pays attention to any international law except when it's in their favour.

Even if 99.9% of Russia's nukes stockpile are duds, made of paper-mache duct tape, or only exist on paper in the first place, that would still leave 6 bombs capable of unfathomable death and destruction.

And that situation applies to the 10,000+ trapped in Kherson. Their only way out are boats since Ukraine cut the bridges and keeps breaking them every time Russia tries to repair them. And those boats are all within range of artillery or HIMARS.

No-one wants to see them use any, but there is a significant chance that any attempt to do so will result in either accidental explosion in Russia or an actual coup.

If Russia does have one of their own nukes blow up on a launchpad failure somewhere they'll undoubtedly make claims of a nuclear attack AGAINST THEM and use it as "justification" to immediately lob a few more.

/If for no other reason than attempt to hide their military's incompetence from their own citizens

Do you even understand how nukes work? Like, at all? There is no reason whatsoever to believe that the 6 bombs of your fevered imagination are somehow planet-crackers. The death and destruction of even the biggest bomb ever detonated is extremely fathomable. You can run it on Nukemap or another nuclear simulator.

The biggest weapon ever imagined, the 100Mt Tsar Bomba (designed, never built), airburst at about 6 km over central Los Angeles, would have a fireball of about 6.1 km (117 km2), and a blast damage radius of about 32.6 km (3325 km2). The combined fireball and blast wave would wipe out everything from Long Beach to Glendale, and theoretically might reach San Fernando, although it's possible the Santa Monica Mountains might shield the Valley from some of the blast effects. Radiation and secondary blast effects would be felt as far north as Victorville and as far south as Mission Viejo, although again, it's possible the coast mountains would soak up some of the effects.

See? That's extremely fathomable and we can even predict with some certainty that most of the greater Los Angeles Metro area would be incinerated--the issue of radioactivity would be irrelevant because there wouldn't be much left of the basin except a few charred ruins.

HOWEVER everything north of Bakersfield and east of San Bernardino would manage just fine, once the fallout plume settled. I'm not sure why you imagine that one bomb means the end of life on the planet.
