That's the Dongsak Nebula.  Some said it wouldn't look like a wanger through the Webb, but it looks even more like a dong, sack and all, than it ever did through the Hubbell.

Probably an artifact of the imaging process.

Have you ever tried to make a corrective lens for an infrared telescope?

/ or it we let someone who really likes lens flare design the telescope

The telescope isn't a lens but a collector array.

That's not flare.  They're strut artifacts from the mirror.

Nothing in the image was crystalline. And nothing in the story.
