Several years ago I answered a question on Quora asking who the better CEO was, Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk.

I answered that it was Elon Musk, hands down. While Bezos had built up Amazon, it had come at a cost of jobs and livelihoods for so many people. Causing so many small businesses and even large, well established brick and mortar stores to shut down or scale back. Bezos' wealth came with a very real cost for society. Contrast that to Musk who created Tesla, which near single handidly made the EV business an actual thing. Before Tesla, EVs were novelty projects like the EV1. They were far from mainstream and it seemed the automotive industry was only doing it for government subsidies and some PR. Now all major automakers are heavily invested. Not just in EVs, but self driving tech as well. This has created so many jobs around the world and is working to help mitigate carbon emissions worldwide. And look at SpaceX, leading the way in privatized space flight, and using that to create Starlink, satellite based broadband internet. Once again more advancements for mankind and more jobs all around

But then Elon found his way to Twitter, and now I wish he'd just shut the fark up and go the fark away

He needs people to tell him that word vomit does not equal good ideas and to shut up.

Elon, babe. I'm perfect at calling you a dumbass. I work super cheap, and I'll be available to insult your ideas at any time and on any medium. If you pay for the classes, I'll learn stone carving and Middle Kingdom Egyptian Hieroglyphics.

He's not that great, really. History won't remember the person who set the vision, put together the teams, and lead the projects for the first viable electric car and the first reusable rocket. If he doesn't step it up, he'll be forgotten by history.  I mean, I totally did more than that last week.  For instance, I made a burrito.

Just remember, some of his many projects *didn't* work out. People shouldn't take chances like that. And others are late. Late is bad, and he should feel bad.

The men's rights movement evolved from the era in which women were finally allowed economic independence, which means they could start being more choosey about what men they dated, i.e., they don't have to deal with shiatty proto-incels anymore to open a bank account, thus turning them into full fledged incels.

This greatly angered the incels as their pool of incredibly desperate women shrank dramatically. Now they biatch about women constantly online and occasionally shoot places up.

I think Elon's main problem is that he's gotten too rich.  $200 billion dollars is enough to mess with anyone's head, and he hasn't had anywhere close to that much for very long.  It's only the past few years that he's made most of his money, and it's the period where he seems to have lost his way.  Twitter is a mature company with little room for seismic innovation. That move is the first thing he's gotten into that wasn't pushing the envelope in some way.

Elon Musk is the sort of bloviating, self-regarding, self-promoting worthless asshole our era promotes almost as much as they promote themselves. He's just another Donald Trump. I feel like Musk is the sort of person who everyone pretty much knows that telling him "no" is the worst thing you can do if you don't want him to do something.  It's a little different from a classical person surrounded by yes-men (e.g. Putin) where people are afraid of offending him (for fear of their jobs and/or necks).

I remember his argument in that. Something about how sexy the kids were so the guy that actually saved their lives must have some ulterior motive. Judge ruled in his favor and started wearing some cool emerald studded bling.

So the farkers comparing him to Trump aren't wrong.  But Trump just buys slums, casinos, golf courses, and high office and runs them into the ground.  So far Musk has managed to take over a car company before it made any cars and made it the most successful car company since the big 2.5 (probably sold more cars than all non-big 2.5 together).  Then built a wildly successful rocket company.  Then started hyperlink (going nowhere).  Then founded the boring company (went nowhere).  Also founded some brain-interface company (appears to be going nowhere.  Would be scary if it worked).  Also tried a pump and dump on Twitter and appears to have massively backfired.  But he (and fanboys) still seems to think he has the magic touch.

Not to mention a twitter feed of complete blather (space stuff seems to be mostly signal and little to no noise.  Best guess is that Shotwell has some control over it).

(I do believe) For amazon how deeply did you research into those jobs lost? Small businesses make up 60% of total amazon sales so while yes some mom and pop shops were hurt many new ones opened up and don't rent from those evil landlords.  With increased competition comes reduced prices so you can say it probably has added jobs to manufacturing as well as logistics and shipping.  It also opened up opportunities for starting a new business using far less capital than opening a brick and mortar store allowing people at lower incomes a greater chance at being independent.  I started a company on amazon with $6k for inventory, company creation, trademark and have grown that 1 business to over $2 million in sales a year.
On the flip side (which i dont believe) you can say musk took away car sales from other manufacturers which may have cost jobs at the manufacturer and dealership levels while promoting cars that damage the environment (cobalt), our grid is not ready for and with terms like auto pilot are false advertising and dangerous.

It might be worth rummaging around to see how many fails Bezos has, but we don't remember them because he didn't showboat things. Or at least as boldly. But you have a point that Musk helped jump the EV market, and Bezos mainly did exactly what Sears should have done 30 years ago.
