So much for supporting Veterans.

Republicans are scum.

No part of Gaetz "thinks." He only has "spout", "react", and "imagine."

We really need to institute that logo'd up, NASCAR style suit thing for these assholes so we can see who they really work for.

Veterans are just greedy ex military who refused to die for their country.

The GQP should look in to the Soviet gulag system.  Send the vets there to work and die.

But the GQP would honor vets for their service.

2022-09-30 2:21:27 PM
The VA is an archaic mess and needs to be burned to the ground so they can rebuild it into something better.

Gaetz probably doesn't want the bolded part.

2022-09-30 2:22:04 PM
It's worked for him so far.

1. Spout some nonsensical crap on social media
2. Everyone thinks you're a joke, so you're not expected to actually do anything
3. Get back to your full-time gig, "dating" high school girls

2022-09-30 2:22:34 PM
The VA is the last line of medical "defense" if the hospital system collapses.

Yeah, go ahead and eliminate it, Who needs health security?

2022-09-30 2:22:48 PM
He's literally calling for funneling taxpayer money directly to corporations. fark these assholes.

2022-09-30 2:22:55 PM
Why not both Virginia and Gaetz?

He was trying for a right-wing boogeyman bingo with that speech wasn't he?

2022-09-30 2:23:03 PM
Yeah, privatize it. That's always cheaper.

Rightfully angry, resentful people with military training and an axe to grind are the BEST people for politicians to antagonize.

Ugh. He's like Joe Isuzu but with none of the charm and significant, non-fictional, amounts of dangerous sleaze.

This the same deal with Obamacare. "Let's end it and replace it with something better.  You know.  Hookers and blackjack"  Problem is, after the end it, the forget the second part.

Honestly this is Republicans entire approach to government. Notice how they all campaign on how broken the government is, and not ever on how they can fix it?

I honestly question how an entire political party manages to function on the premise that people should elect them because government is fundamentally broken and they have no idea how to fix it, but here we are 40 years later on the same platform.

If we as a nation institute a well-run universal healthcare system, then yeah, we probably could shut down the VA, or at least significantly reduce its scope of operations to the sorts of things that are unique to the needs of veterans.  The VA could stop handling most routine medical problems since the maintream system could handle those.  If it still existed it could be reworked to handle things like the mental toll of military service, and the effects from things like Gulf War Syndrome that don't really have much in the way of equivalents among those who didn't serve.

But I doubt that's where the Distinguised Gentleman *hock-spit!* from Florida was headed with this.

2022-09-30 2:24:48 PM
Well, this makes no sense at all.  FL-1, Mattie-Boy's district, is home to multiple military facilities and overloaded with vets and retirees.
What the hell, Matt?  Don't be so sure that the voters will mark the R no matter what.
It's arrogant to do that.
/And this boy is nothing if not arrogant.

2022-09-30 2:25:27 PM
I hate the "choice" argument in health care. In America your insurance provider is chosen by your employer, in most of America that isnt straight up urban your actual health care provider is dictated by proximity.

2022-09-30 2:26:41 PM
Hasn't the US military been having issues with recruitment?

... and he wants to get rid of the system to patch you up once you get back home from catching bullets?

2022-09-30 2:26:48 PM

Mr. carrot: and not ever on how they can fix it?

This is false. They have a plan on fixing it. That plan includes shoveling tax payer dollars into rich people's bank vaults for inferior service. It's the same plan for every other 'socialist' program they vilify.

How has that ever not been true though? A few more might stay home than vote, but you don't think they're actually going to vote for a democrat do you?

Because fixing problems costs money, and spending more on fixing things would make rich people cry.

We can't abolish Matt Gaetz because then Republicans would say we were being mean, or something. Also we can't charge him for the sex crimes he likely committed because all his friends are untrustworthy scumbags.

He has (R) next to his name.
The idea of rebuilding anything in government to make it better, or adding anything new that isn't focused pretty much solely on oppressing "those" people is antithetical to his entire party ideology.

I've heard so many horror stories about the red tape at the VA, but they're always better than damned near any private health care system.

I was being metaphorical about burning it down; modernizing a system means you have to cut ties from the current system. That's the hardest thing to get anybody to commit to.

Destroying government functions so you can privatize it might be their goto, but it's not them fixing government. So it's not false. Their fundamental argument is government is broke, so their only offered solution is to let people other than government "fix" the problem.

2022-09-30 2:30:39 PM
OK.  But to replace it all veterans get free lifetime government health insurance comparable to yours.

More likely leave it blank than vote for a D, true, but it's the same result, no vote for the Gaetz boy.  He's already not very popular personally.  Some 30% of Rs voted for his opponents in the primary, and not because they liked those unknowns any better.
Damn shame that his opponent is Rebekah Jones.  She means well, but she's not all that savvy.  For example, she's having a tiff with Women Against Matt Gaetz, and this is certainly not the time to divide forces.

Matt Gaetz prefers soldiers who don't get sick.

2022-09-30 2:36:18 PM
GOP: I know! Let's end health care for wounded veterans! Then we can laugh at the faces they make! Hahaha! Sick people, am I right?!

Also GOP: hey, why isn't anyone joining the military anymore?! We need to bring back the draft!

Every veteran will receive two $250 vouchers every year, that can be used at any participating healthcare provider.* Additionally, each veteran will receive a Yellow Ribbon Membership card that can be used for discounts at participating fast food establishments and liquor stores.

*Vouchers may not be valid in all areas. Only one voucher may be used per healthcare visit. Vouchers must be used within one year of issuance.

In fairness, it's not like anyone in the GOP has ever WANTED to fix a problem, either. That's why the wealthy people select them to run.

No, it's still false. You have a different vision for fixing the government that actually involves fixing the government. That's not the views they hold. In their minds, the only way they can think to 'fix' the government is to let private business take control over all aspects of the government. it's pretty much one of the main differences between the parties.

Abolish iat and give them government funded single payer insurance.  Or at the very least exactly what Gaetz has.  Same with social security health insurance.  And it's forever the only health insurance politicians can have is what their most vulnerable constituents are getting.

It happened in the 60's. Before that they were a decent party, but racists needed a new home and they saw the opportunity to win elections by becoming a party based on racism. Later they did the same thing with theocratic fruitcakes, sealing their fate.
