So what?  He's still the same old scumbag.  I point and laugh at the hurricane wreckage in Florida.

I listened to him the other day. Smart, knowledgeable, to the point. Reassuring voice... calm.

It's sad that he can be competent and a good leader when he stops acting like a Nazi.

But, it's only short lived and he's using every second of this for his future campaign ads.

Rick Scott did the same.

Hate that man with a passion, but yeah his disaster response was typically proper.

Appearing competent during a disaster is the easiest thing for an elected official to do.

People say Biden/Democrats giving aid is the right thing to do. It probably is, even though I disagree.

But why can't they at least shame these assholes by publicly reminding everyone of stuff like this?

2022-09-30 11:26:01 AM
Biden should send some migrants to Florida to chuck toilet paper at the locals.

Biden should blame the hurricane on DeSantis and order his to resign.

Biden:  in two weeks, I will show the proof that DeSantis directed the hurricane to hit Florida and harm Floridians!
(two weeks later:  crickets)

America's mayor!

Beloved for having the decency and the balls to say "terrorism's bad, but America is better."

So difficult, and yet he did it.

He needs the Fed to send some sweet sweet disaster relief money.  It has nothing to do with manners.

When you need something from someone, you tend to be nicer to them. Film at 11.

What he fails to realize is that not all government is transactional. The federal government would fulfill its responsibility no matter how much of an ass he is, because it's mainly run by grown-ups.

...because all of the destroyed homes and communities belonged to him alone? WTF?

2022-09-30 11:31:58 AM
Better throw some money at him, quick. He can spend it on sending immigrants seeking asylum to finishing schools in the Northeast so that they can achieve his level of ultra-refined deboinairishness and all-around humanitarianism.

The a-hole will be back to bashing Biden the moment the FEMA check clears.

I, for one, am shocked, shocked I say, that DeSantis suddenly wants to play nice the minute he needs assistance from the people he has been attacking, ridiculing, and criticizing at all other opportunities. In particular, I am surprised he feels the federal government is capable of rendering assistance, and even feels it should, given his other expressed views on federal competence and the role of government in daily life. It is almost as if his guiding principles were not what he expresses, but rather whatever is convenient and benefits him at the time.

2022-09-30 11:35:26 AM
Yeah, fark this asshole. How you act when you're asking for money (or expecting to get it) isn't really indicative of your character.

It's clear when you're spending over $600K of Floriduh taxpayer money to fly migrants to Martha's Vineyard.

Hey, maybe that's what he should do. Spend more money to send white Floridians to Martha's Vineyard.

2022-09-30 11:36:37 AM
There are a lot of really cool places and people in Florida.  I lived there for two years and had a blast!
But seriously, fark desantis, this guy is a well polished turd in a suit.

Hurricane Ian seems to have temporarily tamed the combative Florida governor.

Yes, and Trump finally pivoted into being "Presidential".

Super Chronic: What he fails to realize is that not all government is transactional.

One of the, if not the, primary differences between a liberal and a conservative is if they think is should be.

Still the same storm trooper. 6 months from now nothing will have been built back better, all the mobile home parks will still be trash piles and half of all the businesses that took a direct hit will still be shuttered.
The power will be back on but many still won't have a place to live and the money for hotel stays will have run out. He will blame Biden and FEMA for not providing enough socialized public safety net support. The very "entitlements" he would work to get rid of if he were president.

2022-09-30 11:40:29 AM
"...smarter than Trump... ."  That is such a low bar that even DeSantis can get over it.

The scary part is that, while he may be fundamentally as evil as T***p, he's not quite as incompetent.

Diplomacy is saying "nice doggy" until you can pick up a rock.

This is DeSantis, being diplomatic. The article nails the naked opportunism.

Typical conservative.  If help goes to someone else, it's wasteful.  If it goes to me, it's well spent.

2022-09-30 11:48:45 AM
The remaining question is whether Hurricane Ian truly tamed the tarnation out of Ron DeSantis or if he'll revert to the guy he was.

The author's an idiot, however. He's like any other opportunist - he's your friend until the line's up his nose, the shot's down his gullet, the syringe is empty. If he can get another line, drink, or fix by shiat-talking you, he's already started shiat-talking you even as what he took from you starts to kick in.

DeSantis will talk shiat right after the check clears. I fully expect to read an article about how he appropriated some of the relief money to ship more migrants northwards on campaign-friendly private charters, to drop them off wherever he thinks he can get the most MAGA-friendly bang for buck.

2022-09-30 11:50:49 AM
The only difference between DeSantis and Trump is that Trump was dumb enough to try and shiat-talk everyone, to everyone else, in the hopes that he could snort it all before everyone found out.

meat0918: Maybe Ian humbled him...

Its been the same with every Republican Gov. in the last 2 decades.

Chris Christy was a complete ass to Obama until he needed Federal money after Sandy, or any Southern state during Obama's presidency for that matter.

2022-09-30 11:52:09 AM
I think the reason where Desantis looks so good is because the bureaucracy for disasters is top notch. Florida is hiat was hurricanes every year and the front line responders know what they are doing because they get so much practice.
