There should only federal awarding of contracts Florida republicans is just too corrupt to be allowed any control. Desantis likely just broke Florida with abduction of people from Texas and still failing to provide public access required under Florida sunshine of any payments made by the state of Florida for the company that assisted in the abductions

Then: "I sympathize with the victims of Hurricane Sandy and believe that those who purchased flood insurance should have their claims paid," DeSantis said in a statement. "At the same time, allowing the program to increase its debt by another $9.7 billion with no plan to offset the spending with cuts elsewhere is not fiscally responsible."

We could cut any federal contracts in FL for whatever amount we spend to bail them out after this disaster.

Step up press and actually ask him that.
Why was it not justified to pay for other Americans and now justified to pay for these ones?

No shiat.  Just about every Republican does this.

A great response would have been "OK, then raise taxes on the wealthy and corporations"

Have FEMA manage every penny of the clean up expense. The state government gets zero say on how the money is spent.

2022-09-30 2:10:47 AM
So how long before Florida uses federal recovery funds to ship migrants elsewhere. Not in a hidden way, openly and with great fanfare.

2022-09-30 2:19:01 AM
Put together the preliminary damage assessment as soon as possible, and no later than 30 days after the disaster, and funds will be provided through FEMA. When we've democratically decided to provide assistance, it's there for anyone who needs the help.

A lot of people have been affected terribly by this storm. Thank goodness we've built a safety net.

It's as if Conservatives have a gene defect that won't allow them to understand the effects of their decisions until it hits them themselves. Empathy. Is a requirement to have none in the GQP or will you lose it through socialisation?

I was talking Federal taxes you know because he was talking about Federal spending.

They don't just ask for Federal money. The puff out their chests and put a mean pout on their faces and DEMAND to suck the gummint tit. And they don't even pretend to be thankful. They say "Well, it's a start. We still hate you and will never ever work with you. Let's go Biden! Fark Obongo, that gay coke-whore Kenyan! Seig Heil!!!!!"

No. You do direct federal dispersion to Democratic areas. Republican area get less aid, and f**k Clearwater.

Of course, given that all republican are pathological liars, they need to have real evidence to support every single word they produce.

There should be an amendment to any aid bill when someone did what DeathSentence did that says for their district/state/whatever to receive aid, that person must publicly admit they were a rotten anti-American POS for wanting to deny aid to some other part of our country in the past.

2022-09-30 3:15:40 AM
No shiat. Texas did the same: in 2013, huge numbers of Texas Republicans voted against aid after Sandy. Four years later, Harvey ran through Houston and there they were being for relief.

Texas Tribune, August 28, 2017:

U.S. Rep Peter King, a Long Island Republican, took the biggest shot at the delegation on Saturday, tweeting, "Ted Cruz & Texas cohorts voted vs NY/NJ aid after Sandy but I'll vote 4 Harvey aid. NY wont abandon Texas. 1 bad turn doesnt deserve another."

This is completely not shocking to me.

And, once he gets into a position of federal power, he will revert back to voting down hurricane aid 'boondoggles'.

He and the people like him have no principles. Just like the Jan 6th rioters who, 5 minutes before assaulting capitol police officers were all like "BACK THE BLUE!" There's no overarching system of values, just what's expedient from minute to minute.

2022-09-30 4:15:27 AM
If I were a rep from NJ I'd vote for aid and then never shut the f*ck up about it.  I'd burn their farking houses down with kindness.  "Yes, CNN, I voted for aid even though [insert asshole here] opposed Sandy aid.  Democrats aren't petty children; we want to help ALL Americans." On and on ad nauseum to whatever news outlet will listen.

Probably a good reason I'm not a rep.

Biden should hand it to someone other than Desantis so it might actually go to the places it needs to go.  Maybe the city mayors?  FEMA?  And then he should build the Ron Desantis Homeless Shelter Network in Florida, specializing in gay homeless migrants.  Staffed completely by Democrats.

Or just make him agree to shut the f*ck up.

Any aid federal money should all be conditional and have MASSIVE strings attached, since half of every day at the office for DeSantis is waving a giant middle finger around to everyone other than the MAGAest MAGAs who ever MAGAed.

Relief money comes when you can prove the need. And then it goes directly to the person that requested it and not you Ron. You proved that you can't be trusted with federal funds
