So what are they implying, that Chernobyl would be a good place for high melanin animals to live?  Sounds kinda racist to me.

Um, ten generations that allowed genetic drift to almost completely replace the previous dominant trait? Couldn't they run a DNA test in all the frog samples and determine if they're descended from a common ancestor? Or were they only counting frogs, and there was no way to get samples? There ought to be a way to get samples.

What is less known is that this class of pigments can also reduce the negative effects of ultraviolet radiation.
