No, I think it's important to remind people that ghouls on this site celebrated the death of my friend Gene. See, Gene was a musician- he played boogie-woogie piano, and he was good at it. For some reason that could only be traced to personal politics, he lived in the live music capital of North America. And at some point during those 4 days when we were living like it was 1870, Gene froze to death in a cheap Austin apartment that didn't have a fireplace, insulation appropriate for harsh winter weather, or electricity.

And a large number of posters here were completely OK with that, because of Texas' state-level politics. Said he deserved it. So, yeah, I'm still bitter. Anyway, here's Gene.

Florida would be one of the best states for a great rewilding project.  Lots of biological diversity, still, a lush climate that will quickly overgrow our damage, and now the demolition is off to a good start.  It could be one of the great wildlife refuges of the world, with all that coast and all that area to expand.

All right, Floridians, it's time to give back, like you're always talking about, but never do, because you're way too arrogant for that.  Florida is being handed back to nature.  The Villages--yeah, get the fark out of there.

If they're not returning his calls he could get through all 30 of them in like 5 minutes.

During a disaster or any serious national tragedy, 95% of the President's time is spent calling people. That's all he does. He doesn't organize the Weeners/help/safety/relief efforts, he doesn't arrange logistics and time schedules -- he's got people and departments and agencies to do all that.

His job is to call local leaders and assure them.

It's actually one of the few things Biden is probably the best in the world at, because nobody knows how to deal with grief and trauma better than him.

Heard a press conference with DeSantis a day or two before Ian hit. He said:

"We're prepared to share all information with the White House if they're interested."

Like the Biden administration is really so petty as not to be interested in helping out people who are in middle of a natural disaster.

There are supposed to be BootStrappy Republicans in the state of Florida. They should reject, out of hand, any handout from the Gross and Ugly Federal government as being overreach and just bad for everyone.

Google "site:www.fark.com texas power". I'd sure hate for some Floridian who was calling for everyone in San Antonio, Austin, and El Paso to freeze to death to suddenly need a little assistance. Or any thread about hurricane relief in New Orleans, for that matter.

They live in Florida. The state is barely above sea level. Can't even dig out a basement without a lot of engineering. If people suffer and die? GOOD. Serves 'em right.

No, I think it's important to remind people that ghouls on this site celebrated the death of my friend Gene. See, Gene was a musician- he played boogie-woogie piano, and he was good at it. For some reason that could only be traced to personal politics, he lived in the live music capital of North America. And at some point during those 4 days when we were living like it was 1870, Gene froze to death in a cheap Austin apartment that didn't have a fireplace, insulation appropriate for harsh winter weather, or electricity.

And a large number of posters here were completely OK with that, because of Texas' state-level politics. Said he deserved it. So, yeah, I'm still bitter. Anyway, here's Gene.

I think they're being way too literal. Acksully it was hypothermia! Yes he didn't quickly freeze into a block of ice like Jack in the Shining.

Well that should be easy to prove.

I mean I believe that people said that Texas got the politicians people wanted, who made those choices that lead to people freezing to death, and as far as anyone can tell will still continue to re-elect those same folks and don't appear to hold those responsible accountable for the deaths that not just happened, but were avoidable. I don't think anyone said 'well I hope Gene dies, he has it coming' but I didn't read all the comments at the time.

It would be kinda ghoulish to take your ire of a friend dying and to use their death to waggle your finger at some internet randos instead of, I don't know, the people who made the decisions that lead to your friends death and did fark all afterwards about preventing it from happening again.

But hey everyone grieves different.

I was posting in some of those threads.  I don't discount the possibility of 1 or 2 trolls saying horrible shiat.  I imagine some people posting that Texans reap what you sow when you elect someone like Abbott but I certainly don't recall Farkers celebrating the death of anyone.

Why do I paint with a broad brush? Because no one else in the community thought they needed to bother to speak up. And when people tell you who they really are, don't argue with them.

Well I've seen Farkers called out for precisely that type of heartlessness.  However, they are frequently they are automatically or manually ignored as trolls.  Why not direct your anger to the people that actually caused your friend's death?
