Thanks for reminding me to donate to Martha's Vineyard refugee aid.

So as it turns out Ron sent those migrants to Mass for their own safety, what a nice guy.

OdradekRex: Mrtraveler01: OdradekRex: Chanel 2 on Ft. Meyers is livestreaming helicopter video now - Ft. Meyers is properly Farked.  Looks like the gulf coast after Katrina.

I keep waiting for the choppers to point the camera more towards Sanibel but just seeing the causeway collapsed and erroded makes me think that maybe I dont want to see it.

They had a brief long shot of it - the anchors said they were surprised it was in better shape than they expected.

I'm seeing a some more stuff standing than I remember from Andrew's footage, I do wonder about stuff like the Ford and Edison museums though

maxandgrinch: It's good that one of the original bastions of investigative and breaking news was on hand to report this to us.  Thank you Vanity Fair

Maybe the "real" media needs to get its shiat together and start being journalists instead of being Democrat Bashers.

Then he made a statement of support regarding the hurricane recovery efforts.

LOL, I'll be here all day.

Yeah. They couldn't tell where the lighthouse was because everything around it has been wiped away.

chasd00: Ishkur: rudemix: Hopefully DeSantis acts like a grownup in this one moment and extends his hand towards Biden for the good of the people in his state. And then, like they did to that amorphous mass of flab from Jersey when he worked with Obama, his party can castigate, excoriate, and excommunicate him before he follows up on his greater than zero chance to be president.

Word is Biden personally called every elected official in the state yesterday. Not a single one returned his call, except for one: The lone Democrat.

lol every elected official? that would be a neat trick.

If they're not returning his calls he could get through all 30 of them in like 5 minutes.

During a disaster or any serious national tragedy, 95% of the President's time is spent calling people. That's all he does. He doesn't organize the Weeners/help/safety/relief efforts, he doesn't arrange logistics and time schedules -- he's got people and departments and agencies to do all that.

His job is to call local leaders and assure them.

It's actually one of the few things Biden is probably the best in the world at, because nobody knows how to deal with grief and trauma better than him.

Reminder that many home insurance companies went bankrupt or left Florida in recent years and because DeSantis was too busy with political stunts that they had to call a special session to deal with it...which wont take effect until next year.

If you're looking to buy property a bunch of foreclosures there are probably going to be available soon.

Instead, shouldn't we be expressing grave concern about "excessive, wasteful spending" and saying any assistance is socialism/communism/Marxism/tyranny, and deny it to them because we believe in self-sufficiency and personal responsibility?

Difficulty: He would refuse, since he doesn't give a shiat about Floridans.

I am almost positive Ian is gay:  it's like he picked the widest swath of red Florida he could and went 'Gaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy' all over it.

Those red voters will probably appreciate how hard it is to absentee vote...or how drop boxes would come in handy.

At least they will have a flood of socialism to help them out!

cryinoutloud: Florida would be one of the best states for a great rewilding project.  Lots of biological diversity, still, a lush climate that will quickly overgrow our damage, and now the demolition is off to a good start.  It could be one of the great wildlife refuges of the world, with all that coast and all that area to expand.

All right, Floridians, it's time to give back, like you're always talking about, but never do, because you're way too arrogant for that.  Florida is being handed back to nature.  The Villages--yeah, get the fark out of there.

They may have no choice but to rewild Florida. There is only 2 or 3 insurers left that will actually insure a home in Florida. They will most likely be bankrupt after this.
Next step is banks refusing mortgages if homes cannot be insured.

No power and down one cell tower last night so it's been interesting. Out walking the dog surveying the area and see why there's no power... huge tree down right into the works!

High speed Internet went too because it was all on that one pole coming into the subdivision that was murdered...

We weren't even hit that hard by the storm I'm shocked by all the wind damage and that we still don't have electricity. It's the longest outage I've seen, but hurricane...

There are supposed to be BootStrappy Republicans in the state of Florida. They should reject, out of hand, any handout from the Gross and Ugly Federal government as being overreach and just bad for everyone.
They should raise taxes so the good folks of Florida pay to rebuild, not the evil Federal Government.

Sometimes it's hard to be moral.

Game theory and plenty of observation show 'tit for tat' is a good strategy.

Continually helping people who have proven they will gladly watch you suffer and die is not a good social behaviour.  You're just enabling them, giving them a better chance to fark you over in the future.

Maybe some sort of middle ground is possible - tying aid to a contract return the favor or never receive aid again - and if so would be a good idea.

The sky is always some sort of sideways depending what part of the world you are in. Example: South Pole the sky is upside-down. Look at the globe (which is spherical, not flat!)
