Shaggy_C: "Williamson had just started a new job as a package handler at a Charms Candy warehouse a week prior, "

"They said that if you have two no-calls, meaning you just didn't show up to your shift, then after that they get rid of you"

So he had been there a total of one week and had already no-showed once, then sends them a picture of a flat tire and says something along the lines of "there was a shooter yesterday, sorry I'm stressed now, not coming in."

Hmm...If you're the boss in that situation, are you giving benefit of the doubt?

Yes, because I'm not a complete shiat human being.

If being involved in an active shooter incident stresses you out that much you're gonna have a hard time making it in America.

Of course I would. I am a human doormat.

This guy must have been the worst employee. Calling off from work once would be ignored by most bosses. This may have been the 20th time he has FA with work and now he is FO. Decent employees are hard to find. You don't dump them over a single issue like this.

MusicMakeMyHeadPound: I don't know who needs to hear this, but corporate America is sh*t and you are worth so much more than your sh*tty job.

UBI now!

And universal healthcare, as well.

Yes because I appreciate exploiting a tragedy as an excuse to get out of going to work.

MusicMakeMyHeadPound: madgonad: I suspect this asshole was on his 27th warning.

That's so weird that you suspect that, because they explicitly discuss how he started the week prior in the article and he preemptively called HR, who assured him he wouldn't be fired for the thing he was fired for.

Well, he did say he's a data analyst.  He never claimed to be able to read.
