I live in a part of NJ where I get several PHI stations even though I am in a NYC suburb. The PHI stations are not HD so I stick to the NYC stations so I generally am only aware of what is going on on the national level. I also enjoy watching the Sunday morning news shows.

A few weeks ago on Sun. Sept. 11th all of the NYC stations went to 9/11 WTC coverage so I flipped to the PHI stations to finish watching Today and then CBS Sunday Morning. My goodness the PA Senate  commercials were insane.

The right wing will blindly vote for anyone with an "R" by their name.  That's how we got Joseph McCarthy, George Wallace, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump.  They have a long history of being on the wrong side of history.

2022-09-29 4:17:13 PM
Of COURSE it's a horse race!  Without "close" elections, nobody will pay attention to the media.  and they need those eyeballs and clicks for ad revenue.  Expect more of this as the election nears.

Common sense would normally dictate a Shapiro/Fetterman blow out but we're dealing with upstate Pennsylvania's most ardent slimeball republicans. Election interference and screams of theft will permeate the media for weeks. The Feds may have to use martial law. Again.

There's absolutely zero indication anywhere that Oz is gaining on fetterman.

Front page of my local paper had the headline 'Mastriano Closes Funding Gap' with a big picture of his shiat eating grin. Buried in the text was he's up to something like 2 million 'cash on hand' compared to Shapiro's measly 10 million.

Nope. What's happening is that Republicans voters hesitant to vote for Oz are slowly uniting around him because the intent of the scaremongering commercials is to scare their base into voting for Oz.

It's not actually tightening up, but the media can make people who don't understand proability think it is.  538 has the race being 77-23% Fetterman today, where it was 83-17% five days ago.  Ooga booga!!!!

They're calling it a 77% chance of a win for Fetterman.

Strange. I was in Westmoreland County over the weekend (Trump central) and I can count the number of Oz signs I saw (that weren't on a public highway) on one hand.

2022-09-29 4:29:05 PM
I'm only a few miles from Braddock so I'm sure results are a little skewed since he's our guy but almost the only Oz/Mastreono signs we see around here are the people who have never taken down their TFG fags/signs/hats/etc. There's one Oz sign in my neighborhood I've seen.
However there's a few Fetterman signs and a woman stopped me on the road the other day to ask where I got mine.

I get the real feeling that people just don't like Oz or Mastreono very much and people who like Fetterman really like him. There's a whole engaged momentum behind Fetterman and it's been added to by the national momentum built since the Supreme Court leaks this summer. It will drive a lot of voter turnout for Democrats.

It seems the opposite is true around here too, the Republicans outside the True Believers™ have lost steam. Few signs, no bumper stickers I've seen, just very little enthusiasm. There are more TFG signs than anything for Republicans actually running this year.

I sure hope it's a trend that spreads over the next month. It's all about enthusiasm now and somehow Fetterman has managed to tap right into that.

Rally attendance is the perfect arbiter of possible success, that's how we ended up with a second term for Donald Trump instead of sleepy Joe who never drew as large of crowds.

It seems to me that the media is trying to make this tighter than it really is.

I hear the news say things like "People are concerned with Fetterman being able to do the job."
But I have literally never hear another human say that.  In fact, anyone who was going to vote for Fetterman before, would STILL vote for him, even if he were on a ventilator in the hospital.

Meanwhile, Oz is pretty well universally disliked because he is a known shyster, snake oil salesman, and a quack. And one who is not from PA, to boot. Whoever was going to vote for him would do so only because he is a Republican.

In short, I think that the media is trying to give too much to the Republicans to, I dunno...  Keep things interesting?

And, you know...  On that point...  The farking media.  You farking boneheaded douchenozzles.  YOU are aware, just like the rest of us, that this race could literally mean the END of this Democracy.  That means the end of YOU too!  Why in the world would you try to keep this race even.  If you are going to say anything about the election at all, you should be using your influence to sway it AWAY from the Republicans.

There is more than enough Conservative media carrying water for them.  Don't try to play this from both sides.  Talk up the people that actually want to help this country.  Not burn it down.

Now, you may be asking why I want the media to be biased.  Well...  Because they already are.  And the bias that they are showing is for the wrong side.  The side that will destroy this country.

I love me some Michelle Obama. If there's a debate, Fetterman should keep calling Oz Mehmet. Confuse central Pennsylvanians. When they go low, kick them in the shins and break their ribs while they're down.

There was a poll of 630 Pennsylvanians released yesterday that showed Oz was only down by 4. That's the number you asked for. There was another showing Fetterman ahead by 11 released on the same day, so I suspect that the "close" poll may have been a little skewed, but I didn't bother to look into it.

Just accept that every race of consequence is going to be a 1-2 point affair.

The pattern has been pretty consistent over the last several cycles - Democrats with commanding polling leads are targeted with a deluge of highly coordinated messaging on conservative media and massive ad spends in the 30-45 days before the vote. It's wash, rinse, repeat at this point.

If the polls are a reflection of reality and Fetterman is up 3-5% right now then he likely loses.

That this is remotely competitive is just depressing. If swing states can even come close to electing people like Oz and Herschel Walker, I mean, wtf? What are we even doing anymore? Obviously it doesn't matter one bit how extreme, how assholish, or how utterly farking stupid Republican candidates get. You'd think they would finally go too far, or run a candidate who's just so goddamn stupid that hardly anyone can stomach supporting them, but nope. Their level of support stays about the same no matter what. The comic with one side literally pissing all over the voter isn't even an exaggeration.

Just like when this country somehow elected Donald farking Trump, it feels like almost half the voters are hopelessly ignorant or just plain shiatty, and we're doomed to get what we deserve, and get it good and hard.
