a million years ago he was in a silly movie called "If it's Tuesday, this must be Belgium", with the late great Suzanne Pleshette.
/it is the typical stupid '60s movie, but worth the watch for both actors.
//he was quite the hottie back then.
///yes. Ian McShane was hot

And don't forget his turn as the evil, master- of-disguise in Code Name: Diamondhead. MST3K fans sure won't.

He was terrific in American Gods as Mr Wednesday. (What an unholy mess that series turned into.)

He was in a relationship with Sylvia Kristel for 5 years. Anyone attracted to females who had premium cable channel access in the 80s should recall her.

Is there anyone else who elevated the use of swearing in faux Shakespearean dialogue more?

Either he's older than I thought he was or I am.

The first series I saw him in was "Lovejoy" (used to play on PBS in the 80s and 90s).   "Antiques Roadshow" meets "Only Fools and Horses".

Bit sad watching him in the Deadwood finale.  Amazing that they got the band back together to make it, but he was noticeably more frail than some of the other principals.  You just kind of want Swearengen to be immortal, I guess.

Did that show end up being any good? I made it a couple episodes into season 2 before I bailed out. I couldn't handle how long and boring the episodes were and how nothing was really going anywhere. Which was too bad because I enjoyed the book and loved McShane in both Deadwood and the ridiculously under rated Kings.

It would probably be too much and too distracting, but it kinda feels like this quote, or at least the last line, should be included with that tat:

Pain or damage don't end the world, or despair or f*ckin' beatin's. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man - and give some back.

He's great in most anything but that episode of Magnum was pretty crap.

Always wanted to watch Lovejoy. And I'll have to check out Sexy Beast now that I know he's in it.

After I posted I learned that he actually appeared in two episodes.

And I honestly don't recall how bad/good that first season episode was, but recall the joy I got seeing that a young Mr. McShane was guest starring

I'm not sure if I saw all of season 2. I felt sorry for the writers who had to cope with sudden cast departures. The shows grew longer and boringer.

Looking it up, I don't remember seeing him in the season one episode, even after reading the plot synopsis.

I do recall the third season episode: McShane plays an army buddy visiting Higgins. Magnum has to protect them from a group of men bent on seeking revenge on Higgins, McShane, and their army cohorts for a massacre committed in Africa during WWII. However, it turns out that there is no group of men just a lone, crazed Ian McShane doing it all. I believe it ends with McShane on a remote island being hunted by Magnum.

It wasn't the best episode but I had the same joyful reaction you did when I saw that Ian McShane was a guest.

/ might have to watch that first season episode again
// McShane was also apparently in two episodes of Miami Vice; I wonder if I have those....
