I'm not dead yet!

2022-09-28 8:59:05 PM
Saw that live.  I know the jokes and memes, but that guy puts his heart and soul into everything he does, live and recorded.  And his quip that he's got a week of coverage ahead and can't get injured now got a laugh from me.

I saw that live too. In one instance he's standing there shooting the shiat; in the next there's an out-of-frame dude that comes flying into it before the branch takes him out.

Take a bough, Jim!

I'm sure he'll branch out into new reporting.

Who else was hoping he took a branch to the face and was disappointed?

Thank FSM I had swallowed my drank just before reading that.

Dear f*ck, me.
And this is absolutely what he's trained for. I was rooting for him in the moment, in that sick, American way.

I bet he's bummed there was not a bigger bang.

2022-09-28 10:12:09 PM
And I laughed. If you're standing in 100+ MPH winds you're there purely for my amusement. Thanks Jim.
Try not to get impaled. I'd still laugh.

I agree he is passionate about it, but like most QBs around age 40, you have admit that "I'm too old for this shiat" and take a comfy desk job.  Cantore's got to be pushing 60 I would imagine.

A North American iguana or a Galapagos iguana?

Forget the evacuation warnings. If Jim Cantore pulls up in a satellite truck, it's time to get out of dodge.

fark Cantore and his parasitic ilk. These fools help no one and are detrimental to the residents of these areas. Hey look at me and the big wind and waves, followed by, look at me and this big trash pile.

All they do is consume resources without providing any useful information necessary for residents.

Disaster porn and curiosity, that's it.  I think you're right, except they do serve to show people watching how bad it is, and I'm just optimistic enough to hope that means donations towards relief and charitable orgs.

Your personal experience would leave me pretty hacked off indefinitely, too.  That hope of mine is definitely searching hard for a silver lining.

agreed.  mother Nature has had enough of his shiat too.   It was over for me when he was covering a snowstorm and measured the snow depth by jamming a metal tape measure into the highest point of a drift.   His "measurement" was high by about 6 inches.   He is not a weatherman, he is a tv guy who does weather.

I would assume it was staged.   His last storm he was struggling against the ferocious wind and rain in full rain gear and two young guys walked casually down the street behind him with no trouble.   He sucks and was rightly called out on it.

My uncle and his wife met him once. They were bailing out from a beach campground when he was rolling in. They said he was a nice guy that gave them a couple minutes and posed for a pic with their doggo.

it's gotta suck. you work your way up through the TV meteorologist ranks. when you start off - the pay sucks, the hours suck, and you're always battling that "I'm going to be stuck on some sucky UHF station in Bumbfark, Nowhere because I'm just not good enough to make it" feeling in your stomach that regrets those three slices of stale newsroom pizza you called last night's dinner. then after a while of moving around the dial you get the call from The Big Time cable network to come work for them and it's everything you ever wanted to do. you walk in with a "You want me to stand in the middle of a hurricane? absolutely!" attitude and - bam! it becomes your thing. you stand out in the middle of a hurricane and middle America goes "holy... wow!" and memes about you landing at the local airport because shiat is about to go down to viral. and it's your thing. no one can take that feeling of owning a thing away from you. you're on top of the world and they can try to topple you, but you're internet famous so - screw them. you got this.

and then you hit the age when you try to stand up in a measly 140 mile per hour wind in the first big hurricane in a while and... it's not happening anymore. sure you can try to fool yourself for awhile, but you know it's done. yes - you can do the weather from "inside" in a "studio" with the occasional on-the-scene report when the knees are feeling good, but those will stop happening soon too...

he had a good run

I have found that, if stuck watching Nascar, watching the pit crews change all four tires, refill the gas tank and wash the windows in 14.2 seconds is impressive.

And then seeing all 30ish crews doing this simultaneously just adds to the amazement..

Why else would anyone watch NASCAR? It's overpaid rednecks driving around an oval track for hours. Not exactly exciting until one of them gets a little too intimate with the wall.

I'm not convinced this video wasn't staged.  The ONLY two pieces of flying debris in it just happen to fly straight at him.

I should say in the version I watched yesterday, I didn't watch the one in TFA.

I got hit by a flying oak tree branch right in the back last night when I got out of my car to move a huge one blocking the road in my neighborhood.

Walk it off, honky.

This.  ALL of this!

I have a lot more time for the James Spanns and Bryan Norcrosses of the world.   They at least provide useful information to the people who are impacted by these storms...

This is what storm coverage needs to be...
