gaspode: Get some new ideas for farks sake

You know how I know it's the end of the world? Everything's already been done. Every kind of music's been tried. Every kind of government's been tried, every farking hairstyle, bubble gum flavors, you know, breakfast cereal. What are we going to do? How are we going to make another thousand years? I'm telling you, man, it's over. We used it all up.

It's just all fan fiction all the way down as far as i see it.

The minimum level of creativity required to rise above fan fiction, is just rename the characters, and redress the sets, to at least attempt the illusion of telling an original story.
If you just keep using the same characters and premises over and over again, that's the realm of fan fiction.
And  for sure I don't pay for that chit.

FINALLY! A new chance to enjoy the not-at-all-tiresome comedic genius of Taika Waititi! Can't wait to see which character(s) he miscasts himself as this time!!

my last magic mushroom trip, pal Jeff and I picked a ton, near Coast Guard base in Eureka, CA.  He taught me which ones to avoid, which ones were THE FUN ONES. back to barracks. 5-6 pals ingested some, and drank mushroom tea.  Jeff loved "TIme Bandits". put it on.  Chronology from friends, after ingesting:

5 minutes later: "dude I ain't feeling shiat!  You guys sure this are the fun ones?"

10 minutes later:  "Man, you guys bunked us!  This sucks!  This movie is dumb!"

20 minutes later:  "ok this movie is getting kinda cool....you guys ok? I feel like I can't feel gravity."

30 minutes later:  "ummm....am I the only seeing random shapes and colors?"

45 minutes later:  "DUUUUDE....I AM A TIME BANDIT.I'M INSIDE THE MOVIE AND THEY'RE READING MY MIND!  the colors are so beautiful.  dude i can feel everything in the Universe right now!"

the movie got intense we had to turn it off.  all completely out of our minds.  Jeff tried to change from his sweater to t-shirt.  he got lost.  he was laughing.  we all sat by and gave our thoughts over what was probably 5 minutes but seemed like hours. "no, dude, pull your arm out first and then pull it off...."  "no man, the neck is where you start...."

Frank crawled out the 2nd story window, said he felt like he could float.  we had enough sense to pull him inside.but spent the next 10 hours tripping our balls off.

Holy shiat, no. Just no.

I WANT to like her. I tried that show EPISODES that everyone said was great but.... It's her voice.
I grew up in the era of Friends and I can't see her as anything else.
She was great in Easy A, but it was just older Phoebe

Love Time Bandits, like Kudrow, don't hate Waititi, but this nonsense? I'm Team Evil Genius, and let's just reboot reality, because there have been some serious missteps somewhere along the way.

Since we can't get Sean Connery, we'll actually have to settle for an actor of equal but cheaper stature.

I guess that means you never watched the original?

2022-09-28 11:41:31 PM
The original premise was God messed up, creation was broken, and God's own servants were a bunch of jerks taking advantage of it rather than fixing things up.  I can think of a third of the American population that won't be watching that, but I suppose most of them wouldn't have looked up from Fox NEWS for anything else, either.

It will be interesting to see what they do with it, but I suspect it will pale in comparison to the movie.

So. Name a completely new idea. There are some novel-ish takes. But pretty much everything is a derivation of good/evil/hero/villain/survival/death/gods/mortals/eternity/finite/lust/hunger/discipline/space/earth.

yea, that Hero's journey plot line has been done to death, i mean, what 2000 years? time to give it up.  writers should stop using it

The original movie was bonkers enough.  It was certainly the first time I saw something in the theaters and went 'What... they're ending it like that?'  I guess I was 10 years old.

I don't know how they can do that again.  Perhaps they can still get David Warner back as Evil.

What are you blathering about? Its an old IP being dug up to save the risk of writing a new one. 'Time Bandits' is not an ancient story archetype you buffoon.

He ought to tag team with Wes Anderson. It'd be so twee and broad-winkingly clever you'd shiat yer pants.

That simply isn't true at all. There are new ideas. There are also a lot of old ideas that have never been tried. The reason we're seeing so many remakes and reboots and sequels and prequels and spinoffs is because of the myriad choices available with streaming video.

The major media companies need something to stand out in order to draw an audience. Right now a major tactic is to build off something that was already established before. Something that the public is already aware of. Something that has an existing audience.

It's an old story. New technology creates competition, so the established producers of the old technology need to find something to put bums on seats. In the film industry, that meant that radio was followed by sound films, television with widescreen colour epics and seedy genre films that weren't clean enough for television, video recorders and satellite TV were followed by flashy effects-laden action and adventure films. Meanwhile the satellite and home video markets opened up to a vast number of micro-budget independent and genre films.

They're all just looking to be seen and heard among an ever-growing crowd.

ok so there are people who travel through time to steal items BUT...there is an organization in the future that also travels thru time to stop them.  Kind of like..time cops.

and then the uss enterprise shows up.

I recently saw a movie about a guy looking for the bones of his dead brother, was also a rabbit. He eventually found the bones had reincarnated into rice cakes.

I suspect the "creators" are using some form of Mad-Libs in order to come up with new "product":

___________ stars in _______________________ directed by _______________________________________
[bad actor]                                        [crappy reboot no one asked for]                                                  [once promising director who has since shiat the bed]

Farkers don't like Taika Waititi now?  I think he can definitely make this work. Time Bandits is a sweet movie, and Waititi makes sweet comedies.

Man is a genius.

He seems to be talented but limited.  Close variations on the same theme.

And the recent Thor movie got the MCU/Taika balance wrong and was tonally inconsistent.

His novelty has worn off and he needs to step up his game to keep the myth going.

I liked time pirates a lot as a kid, so I'll probably check it out, especially since Waititi is involved. I'd rather an ice pirates remake though, just nix this part

I wonder if people in Ancient Greece or Rome complained about constant remakes, reimaginings, & retellings of The Iliad or The Odyssey or the umpteen other Bronze Age myths.

That's the plot to nearly every Egyptian story.

Rubber was pretty original. But possessed inanimate objects is also been done a lot.
