Everyne's been using the free mini version

This is where my usual strategy of "spread the task over a dozen crappy old machines" computronium falls down. It requires a modern GPU, and I'm not about to dig deep enough into the source code to change that.

I don't get what's so great about it.  If it's supposed to be creating abstract art I suppose it's OK, but it's all so similar - it seems to generally produce something that looks like a couple of different image samples mixed together with a swirl filter on faces.

If it's supposed to be creating synthetic photos, it's a complete and utter failure.

Using it as a joke here on Fark seems like a perfect application of the application.

It's cool for inspiring ideas but it's going to have to get better at anatomy before I'm going to use it for much.

K. Neat and about time, but I'm happy throwing my own hardware at that sort of stuff. I neither need nor want another "just ~$15/month" service in my life, no matter how good it is or isn't at glamorous cats.

/But thanks for CLIP; that really made this whole thing happen.

What happens when the DALL-E 2 generative art AI is finally unleashed upon the public:

Define "modern GPU." Will my 3DFX Voodoo Graphics work or is it time to upgrade?

At this point SD could probably work on a 970 or 1050. Might be too modern, but man... Props for keeping an HD5870 going this long?

The 1050 and 970 might be able to pull SD off if they're one of the ones with a lot of VRAM, but it's gonna be slow, like get up and go do something slow.

/my 8GB 3060Ti does about 4 within about 30 seconds
//mom's computer is still running my old 5770 I think, about 11 years old

It'll be slow, but it's definitely able to squeeze into 2GB of VRAM at this point. It's mainly a matter of whether the card explodes doing CUDA anything and how long you're willing to wait.

/Hell of a change from last month when 12GB wasn't enough to gen 1024x1024.

That's true. I feel like the shiatposting potential is pretty high with SD right now but everyone just seems to want to make vaguely-to-greatly disturbing porn with it. Also no one seems to have any idea how to reliably construct prompts, it's all cargo-cult nonsense trying to see how many "by Greg Rutkoswki"'s you can jam into it hoping to get something that looks passable

The shiatposting potential is indeed massive. We got the entire rest of the Internet for porn, so I'm definitely having way more fun on the shiatposty side of things.

And really, if you need "Greg Rutkowski, 4k, 8k, 16k Octane Render" in the prompt to get reliably good outputs, you'd probably have a better time of it rephrasing the base prompt. We all settle on prompt pieces we like, but a lot of folks should really experiment more with the potential of these models.

You can do a lot without gregging things up, and often times chucking in any artist name just messes up what you're going for.

Well I half-assedly tried but SD doesn't really seem to have a good profile Joseph Stalin, or it didn't really get Hitler's moustache right. If it makes you feel any better you got me to willingly generate a few old-timey black and white images of wrinkly old dudes kissing at like 5AM and now they're on my PC

Waifu Diffusion is also a bust. It does better on Stalin, but now I have a folder full of old timey photos of Stalin making out with himself.

/The shiat I do in the early morning on a "what if."

Sure, it's art. No, the prompter is not the artist.
