Bbbut Traitor Carlson said it was the USA!!

Seriously though, Russia had stopped the gas flow. Not only were they not making money, the pipeline was Costing them money. By violating the contract to deliver, they owed fines. Now that the pipeline is damaged, they get to claim Force Majeure and they no longer owe the fines.

Furthermore, this sends a signal that Russia can strike underwater pipelines. They severed a data cable earlier this year, they're showing the the Brand New Polish pipeline is vulnerable. That new pipeline even crosses Nordstream 2 at some point - they're in the same area. They avoided triggering NATO by keeping the attack in international waters so it wasn't an attack on a NATO country.

Finally, it's given the Russian propaganda machine a way to blame the consequences of Russian energy blackmail (people suffering through cold winters with unaffordable gas) on the USA.

This was a Russian attack, and a rather nasty signal that they may not resort to nukes, but they can still inflict pain on the west.

Where normal people called regions, counties, townships, or landkreis, neighborhoods, patches, or arrondissement --  the Russians have weird name -- Oblast.

Given they believe they own the whole earth, it's not surprising they blow things up, even if they're under water.

That's why they have subs off Ireland right now.  Looking at all the deep sea cables.

I can't wait for all the people who out themselves as special needs by believing Russia destroyed a pipeline it needs for income and a dwindling vestige of leverage. They can just turn it off when they want it off.

In just under a minute, I can count the Chunnel, all the transatlantic underground cables, and all the underwater pipelines into Europe, not just from Russia but also Norway.    There must be sonar arrays and all sorts of stuff we wouldn't know about.

A few mystery underwater nuclear blasts could change that.

Tucker already has built his stockpile of tweets and articles blaming Biden beforehand, acting on Putin's advance briefings.

Blowing it up gives them a bit of plausible deniability and Putin is more than happy to hurt his people if it means stigginit to the rest of Europe.

Your wait is over.  Special  military operations are special needs.  And has been ever since Russia blew three holes in the pipeline just south of Sweden days ago.  Why Sweden.  Why not closer to where the pipeline goes underwater much further east.

Your also asking the wrong question.

The real question is do thermals interfere with detonating mines attached underwater using electromagnetic waves.

It's not just underwater pipelines. They took down the Colonial pipeline in the US for weeks a couple years ago with a cyber attack.

The pipeline itself was fine. The hackers took down the billing system.

And they shut the entire pipeline down and caused chaos because they were terrified that they couldn't bill accurately for a short period

No I don't, but Trump warned about it and was mocked by farkers pretty hard.
Guess it's hard to admit anything positive about Trump.

Nord Stream 1 was commissioned in Obama's first term. Russia and Germany started planning their warm cozy  future together when Bush was in office.

they turned off the nuclear power reactors in favor of solar and wind, which automatically requires the use of NG or coal.  Germany went for NG from Russia, Trump warned that was a bad idea.

"The European Union will next week publish recommendations on how countries can cut gas demand to prepare for winter.
A draft of the recommendations, seen by Reuters, said one option would be to postpone the shutdown of nuclear power plants or switch from gas generation to nuclear where possible."

Well, no. We've been discussing this on a blog I hang out on, with a lot of UK people, a German, a Finn.... The opinion seems to be coalescing on a) *NOT* a state actor, and b) possibly a Polish-flagged boat, as there are a bunch of them in the area (someone went to a site that records boat locations).
Russia has zero reason to cut it - they want Europe to get back to buying it. A pusher does not cut their own source.  Also, a pipeline to Norway - the Baltic Pipeline, will provide gas to Poland.

Yeah, that's one for the "blind squirrel sometimes finds a nut" file. Trump did occasionally say or do the right thing. Probably by accident or for corrupt reasons, but he should get credit for the accomplishment. And Germany's decision to shut down perfectly good nuclear power plants before they had equivalent renewable capacity in place was dumb.

The one at the top of the thread about a "Force Majeure" declaration is the most plausible theory I've heard so far. Hard to know for sure until the military and commercial agencies with more data choose to release some of it to the public.

They did to provide a talking point to their neo Nazi and tankie propagandists.

Who all coincidentally had the same talking points ready to go, blaming the US.
