Wow. As if that sh*tshow of a game didn't have plenty enough red flags sticking out of it to begin with.

There are a total of 11 people who have my actual cell number. I have SMS turned off at the carrier level. Everyone else gets a Google Voice number that doesn't ring anywhere. I don't even think my phone should have a phone number.

More reason to not buy their games.

Google Voice Number would get around that pretty easily.  They should ask for a SSN.

And there goes what little was left of my interest in that game, and I say this as someone who was playing the first one as of last night. I just kept hitting the "I already gave you my number" button when it popped up. Between this and locking characters behind a paywall...yeah no.

I did programming for a phone sex company back in the '90s. Our screening was so good, credit card companies and the phone companies consulted us. Then the scammers in Congress passed laws saying anyone can deny charges for phone sex and the charges had to be cancelled. That was the end of the business.

Unfortunately, lots of services won't accept a Google Voice number. I'm not precisely sure of how that works on the tech side of things, but I've run into the issue quite a bit. Some services don't recognize them as a valid number.

So that's why I haven't been able to reach you about your car's extended warranty!

A few years ago I met one of the new people at work who had a good vibe so talking to them a bit they shared that they had maybe 11 overwatch related tattoos.  As a fan of game I thought it was kinda awesome but now feel sorry for them.

wow, knew this day was on the way, just didn't realize how fast it would be here.

so that's game i won't be playing, cause my phone number ain't a thing i hand out like that.
Also, if i believed that that was the way to combat cheating in games and that game companies would really really LIFETIME ban people for cheating(under age getting a one time 2nd chance upon legally entering adulthood).

If cheating was the real deal and i believed they were going to place value in the legit players and give up money from returning cheaters. Then i might actually consider the cost of the cheapest not used phone i could run to let them try it.

But so so little on the open free market is worth the hassle of my phone number being too widely open in every spam database under the sun.
bliz can go to their own future with out me.

And no joke i would so be willing to pay some annual sub fee and use a bio metric of some kind, to be part of a keep cheaters out system.
but a certain amount of real world privacy vs. my personal ID privacy has to be had or i understand i am paying to be the product, not paying to get any service really.

this idea from blizz is more in line with keeping up the one a minute pace.
and that the sell angle is aimed at the lazy parents who want the company to protect their crotch fruit from typical human norms(lame norms, but typical none the less), is fooking lame.

How do you deal with all the stupid logins requiring 2FA via SMS? Or deliveries / any of the other number of things that use SMS?

They get my Google Voice number. If they don't deal with that then I don't need to use it.

I've mostly steered away from competitive online games, in part because of the toxicity that seems to thrive in that environment. But I've really been enjoying Splatoon 3. If you're interested in a clever shooter that has only a light but very positivity-forward social element, I'd recommend checking it out.

I used to play it since the Beta , but over the years it became such an unplayable train-wreck (I became to call it "NeverWin") and this was before I learned that the Blizzard Devs were more interested in being sexual predators than actually doing their jobs.

Plus the fact that there seems to be Trump stink all over the company (Steve Bannon made his fortune from selling WoW gold and now Blizz has hired some former Trump flunkie as it's chief operating officer).

And the recent decision to make it "free" to play? Oh yeah. I can already see the push for microtransactions.

Like I said, the company in general and this game in particular is giving off too many red flags.

/Just wish that TF2 would get it's act together so I can return to that game.

Because RealID worked so well for Blizzard the first time they tried to toss their hat into the SWATting/identity theft ring.

I haven't played a blizzard game since they pulled that shiat.

I have not regretted it.
