LordBeavis: Setting aside their horrible human rights' record, why would the Saudis invest in a golf league?  Golf is becoming increasingly irrelevant with the younger generations and Saudi has no naturally growing grass to play golf.  It's almost as if having one of the most bass ackwards, in-bred bunch of peckerwoods on the planet  a surplus of billions of dollars a year would result if excess and bad ideas...

Yeah, I'm not seeing the value here.  Supposedly they're sportswashing, but sportswashing what?  Everyone knows it's the bonesaw country that sponsors it.  They've taken mostly the older golfers and the people nobody likes (DeChambeau and Reed).  They only play 54 holes and they only have 9 tournaments including a "championship" that everyone is allowed to enter.

Golf does have less viewers and is increasingly irrelevant to younger people (total courses in the US are down 11% from 2006), but the viewers it does have tend to have more money to spend.

This is just not a compelling product.  For viewers, it offers no improvement over the PGA.  But the Saudis have trillions of dollars.  They can throw money at this for decades.  They lost billions on WeWork and it was just a rounding error.

One thing about the LIV tour is that various right-wing sources have been harping on it.  I follow a few golf related things on FaceBook and so FB has been sending me LIV vs. PGA content.  There are a ton of rednecks who have never been on a golf course in their life (assuming they aren't fakes) yammering about the unjust treatment of golfers by the PGA.  This is a consistent talking point.  I don't see why anyone should care besides the golfers themselves (they are independent contractors in PGA whereas LIV players are categorized as employees), but I certainly don't see why Darryl from Lake City, FL gives a shiat.
