City council stay in your farking lane. Sewers, sidewalks and services. That's it. Do the job you were elected to do. Go up the chain if you want to pass legislation.

Jessica Alexander (the councilwoman who proposed the ban) is a "special" kind of derp.  From local news coverage of the ban proposal.

Alexander has previously called COVID-19 "the China virus," compared her opposition to wearing masks to the struggle of civil rights icon Rosa Parks, and opposed creation of Temecula's diversity and inclusion committee. In spring, residents said she tried to stop a private drag show, organized in the city by two gay men. And in June she criticized the city for its proclamation declaring June as Pride Month recognizing the local LGBTQ community.

Fortunately, she's only one of five on the council.  Unfortunately, she's not up for reelection this year.  Even more unfortunately, two of the seats which are up for election have similarly derptastic candidates in the running.

Don't like abortions? Don't get one.

Don't like that they're legal? Move your stupid ass to Idaho.

Abortion has gone from being a national right under Roe vs Wade to a states right under this current court to a town right as per TFA, it's only a matter of time before it becomes an individual right and it's back to where it began.

Is that even something that can be done at the city/county level?  I would think that something of that nature would require the State Legislature to weigh-in, but I honestly don't know.

Came here to say this.

Temecula is a shiathole. A sprawling 90's/00's suburbia too far from any metro area to commute in under an hour, with literally nothing if interest to do or see, and filled with "fark you I got mine" types. A slice of Texas right in between San Diego and Riverside.

It's not quite dawn here.. but 'womb to tomb' can be the same thing, if they get their way.

Just devil's advocating here but if it was precedented that cities could do it, places like Austin in Texas could use the same precedent to tell the state legislature to go fark themselves. It has to work both ways. But yeah, SCOSA's already made it a state's issue not a county one.

Sounds like she's a big proponent of universal healthcare, so everybody is covered from womb to tomb.

Temecula is a place that you drive by when you're going someplace else. It's the California equivalent of a flyover state.

So if I put Buy One Get One Free abortion coupons on all the cars in the Temecula High School parking lot, is that wrong, should I not do that?  Would that piss off the Temecula City Council?

Many years ago I had the pleasure of being awakend , actually, they never really let me sleep, by a flock of peacocks , at the Cilurzo Winery. Waking up hungover as fark to go and brew 2 barrels or ale on the back of a toyota pickup at a homebrewers festival was something that I am glad that I did.
That is my memory of Temecula, and going with Vinnie the day after to his first brewery was another.
That was many years ago, I drove through Temecula ,many times since then  and its just a suburban sprawl now.

City level bans? Why not just take it a tiny bit further and allow individuals to decide if they want to ban abortion for themselves.

Temecula always sounded like the name of a skin condition to me.

Like an irritating heat rash between your ass cheeks or similar.

I guess I won't be visiting or shopping in Temecula anytime soon. Everything is ridiculously overpriced in town, anyway, due to the wineries, who themselves charge crazy money for inexpensive CA wine to pay for pretty buildings.
