If I were a rich, quirky goofball, I'd do tons of bizarre commercials...but only in other countries. The crazier the better.

It used to be fairly common for big Hollywood actors to do commercials in Japan.  It was an easy paycheck, and before youtube it was highly unlikely anyone from the US would ever see them, so they didn't have to worry it hurting their image back home.
