"There are consequences associated with that, and the consequences in many cases I don't think justify or are worth the benefit that's associated with, you know, 25-cent drinks."

Lol Baker, you loveable scamp.  25 cent drinks.  Maybe we'll stop by the soda fountain for a malt first.  Me and Wendy are going steady now, so we want to make it a special date.

What's Massachusettes, Subby? A girl group that sings popular songs of the 1950's with a Boston accent?

A dollar off of a well or tap pour is going to turn every one into raging drunks!

/happy hour is better for cheaper snacks, even if the portions are smaller, 2 half orders to mix it up for the price of one at full price

They're not allowed to have happy hour right now?

Not since the 80s.  Some bars get around it by having permanent deals on cheap beer (eg. "dollar bud drafts") but only keep it in stock at certain parts of the week.  These are places where you'll probably stick to the floor.

FTFA: "Massachusetts prohibited happy hour promotions in 1984 after a string of deadly drunk-driving accidents."

The "string of drunk driving accidents" was a solitary incident in which a woman got drunk at a restaurant, went "car surfing" while her similarly inebriated friends drove around the parking lot, and she fell off the roof of the car and died.

That woman became the "poster child" for abolishing happy hour.

I was in college when they stopped happy hour. About 1986 or so. RIP Punters Pub.

They're not alone VT and RI don't. It's stupid though, there's no correlation to accidents. But a MA didn't use to have Sunday retail alcohol sales into the 2000s because Jesus. So things don't have to make sense.

I find it interesting that the Restaurant Association also opposes it. Wonder why that is? Maybe they just don't want to face competitive pressure to offer drink discounts?

Will the cannabis stores get happy hour as well?

Back in the 60's, my now-retired uncle worked with a guy who always won the "in MY day..." competitions because in his youth he'd been able to get two Martinis for a quarter.

It's worse when the floor has carpet (for God's sake, why?).  I'm dating myself, but I remember $3 cover and all you can drink, what I assume must have been Busch or Milwaukee's Beast.  You got you cup of beer and got back in line to drink it.  My roommate was so toasted, he stood at a railing watching a pool match and this biatch was flirting with a guy to bait her boyfriend into a fight.  Sure enough, pool cues were broken and knives came out, and he just stood there until we grabbed him and headed for the door.  We couldn't find another friend and it turns out he was on the roof playing Batman hopping from roof to roof down main street, which was on par for him, as he'd do anything on a dare.  He got smacked around at a Van Halen concert, followed the guy home, came back in camo fatigues and face paint, slithered through the parking lot in the dark and put a Ka-bar into every tire on the dude's car.

Those are "Early Bird Specials" and a lot of places made the shift, only to be inundated with an older crowd that is MORE than happy to take advantage of that deal.

The only thing better than cheap sh*tty beer is cheaper sh*tty beer!!!

You can have a late afternoon sh*tty beer still.  You just have to pay the normal price for it: $4 a pitcher,  a hangover before you get home, and a sick day on Friday.

In my lifetime I've never seen .25 mixed drinks. Not even in other countries. I have seen quarter beers in Wisconsin. And quarter shots. They're probably a 1.50 now for happy hour with cost increases. I haven't done the math but your probably at 80 cents a pint for a cheap keg wholesale these days. Crazy when you think about what they charge at a ballpark and they buy by the semitrailer.

Not Jesus as much as the local "pouring establishments" were giving fat envelopes to the local solons to ensure their monopoly.  They were eventually outspent by the beer and liquor distributors.
