I hear Pennsylvania has some rad crudité.

I've been to Deluca's Diner and Primanti Brothers... both were damn good.

I liked the place. Very old, hilly and weird... but I like that I guess.

Usually I direct out of towners to The Church Brew Works.  The beer is good, but the food is expensive.  The ambiance is heavenly.

If you want to fit in, don't say You All or Y'all, say Yinz.

I'm also a fan of Salem's in the Strip, but there are a bunch of places in that area which are good.

Avoid the Southside; the drunks have gotten all... shooty recently.

I'm gonna put in a plug for Baby Loves Tacos on Liberty Ave and Blue Dust in Homestead, since friends of ours own those.

That was my first choice, too. Been awhile since I have been there.

Oh gods...I was just there.   Where in town will you be staying?   Downtown, Station Square, and Mt. Washington will have the best restaurants, so I'd limit my choices to those areas.   I'd recommend you NOT eat Mexican food at the Waterfront.....
<_<

If you have time for a breakfast, do Eggs N At, in Moon Township.

Somewhere outside of Pennsylvania.

Is it Wawa or Sheetz in Pittsburgh?

I like EatUnique in Oakland. There was this terrific Korean restaurant in either Squirrel Hill or Oakland, too. Wish I remembered the name.

ArkPanda: Is it Wawa or Sheetz in Pittsburgh?

Sheetz is in the Pittsburgh area.

Hey, is this the meme where we recommend places far away from the city being referred to?

/I don't know if Pittsburgh has the internet

I've only been to the Pittsburgh airport, so I can recommend the Ben & Jerry's.

Assuming it's still there.

Primanti Brothers.  The place where they put the fries on the sandwich that every Hack food show has to go to when in Pittsburgh.

Primanti Brothers, Peppi's, and Wholey's fish market are within a block of each other on the Strip. All are really good. In fact, you can eat well and never leave the Strip District no matter what you're in the mood for, but sandwiches are what Pittsburgh does best. If you're looking for casual, family-type dining, there's Eat 'n Park. If you're looking for a little craziness, go to the South Side and hit Carson Street. Fat Head's is over there, among other choices strewn among the bars.

Carson Street is blocked off, road construction.   Avoid South Side if you can.

Check out the Arby's on McKnight Road if you want your hair and bobs tasted.

Make sure to wear yogurt pant.

Oh and catch a Pirates game, if they're in town. It's usually a cheap ticket and they have one of the best stadiums in the entire country.

Jean-Marc Chatellier's French Bakery In Millvale. Check ahead however as they're only open 1-2 days a week at most and just for a few hours until they've sold out.

Twisted Frenchman is great for Parisian fusion.

El Campesino has excellent chimichangas.

Sesame Inn does Peking Duck. Chinatown Inn is the last remnant of Chinatown in Downtown Pittsburgh. Great food and ridiculously strong Tiki style drinks.

Pamela's for breakfast. It was good enough for Obama.

Max's Allegheny Tavern for German food.

Gooski's in Polish Hill for drinks and the best jukebox in the city.

Because of the geography, these will all take you hither and yon. If you're driving, see if you can figure out the color belt system. I couldn't make sense of it after two decades.

One more thing. Park Brugge or Point Brugge for Belgian food including moules frites.

Find restaurant or gastrobar in a slightly, but not too, run down neighborhood (like  Blawnox or Swissvale), in a slightly, but not too, run down building, that has a wooden front door and a B health rating.  Get the second it third least healthy thing on the menu

Ragin' Asian: Pamela's for breakfast. It was good enough for Obama.

I was sexually harassed at Pamela's. This was in the eighties, I was maybe nine years old, and it was when Pamela's was just some random unknown dinner in North Side   My dad took me there, he was friendly and on first name basis with some of the staff.  There was a waitress who I didn't think was older than 13 (though I was nine so I might not have been the best judge at that point in my life).

At some point the waitress was walking by and grabbed me from behind and started trying to tickle my sides.  I scowed and wiggled away and I then saw her walking away seeming very satisfied with herself.  My dad told me I should have asked her for a kiss.

I had forgotten about that until, one day visiting the old Burgh, I decided to try Pamela's since Michelle Obama ate there.  When I walked in I recognized it and the memories came back.

If you do make it out to McKnight road (10 minutes north of downtown), I will second el camp for Mexican and people do go nuts for sesame inn. I'm not into Chinese food so I don't go there (though last time I went a few years ago they had a Thai menu section). If you're into Indian, Taj Mahal is awesome. There's also kebab king which is mostly Indian but also a few Pakistani dishes. I had lunch there one day with my mom, the food was real good and the waitress was so polite.

I don't go into town to eat but I could tell you all the popular places. Anywhere on Penn Ave between sixth Street and 10th Street. Sixth Street between Penn and Liberty. All of market square. Coop de ville in the strip. Far too many to list.

But if you have to pick one that IS Pittsburgh , I too will say Primanti's. Steak and cheese (#2 seller). They claim iron city beer is #1. Gross.
