That seems dumb. Combat inflation by not spending money until prices drop. If you work  yourself to death to earn more money to pay higher prices they will just keep raising the prices.

Yeah! Don't eat and don't pay rent! That's how you survive inflation, everyone knows that.

I needed to buy some silicone tubing the other day and it's significantly more expensive than it used to be. Is that rent or food?

Are you looking for extra work to make ends meet? If not, then this does not apply to you and you can go buy this tubing you desperately need.

There is tons of work available now, but I'm not sure how long that is going to last.

Hunker down, this is not going to be pretty.

No dummy, I need to earn more money to pay the temporarily higher prices.  Everyone else needs to lose their jobs and suchlike.  That will fix it.

Are you inserting context into the OP and mine? Since you were, I suggest meeting with a therapist because you've got a problem with that.

I'm only pointing out that people in the 30% might want to not insert their own privilege into the problems of the 70%. I mean, unless you can point out where in Maslow's hierarchy we can find silicone tubing, I don't think you're being honest that this problem applies to you.

I apologize for my privilege, but I can't help that I took economics courses in college. On day one I opened the text book and read, "Consumption is the basis of human existance." and have spent my entire life trying to make a lie of it.

Sorry.

Why can't Ms. Piggy count to 70?

Because every time she gets to 69 she has a little frog in her throat.

Considering the number of stores still reducing hours/days open, the unlikely tag must be out looking for a 2nd job.

The dumbest way to combat inflation is to lower wages through free trade agreements and trying to trigger a recession instead of going after price gouging companies with record profits.
The working class has no say over what the prices are, hit those who do.

Or they could ease back on their consumptuous  lifestyles just a teeny bit, but you know we never do that.

That's because economics is a lie made up by greedy people.  Human existence is based on biology, not a lie made up by a bunch of men with tiny balls who need to buy Teslas.
The basis of human existence is to reproduce.  This basic urge is cut back immensely when you introduce greed and the circus of consumerism into it. Before you know it, humans forget that other humans and the living world are what make them tick, and they think that they can buy their happiness with money.  Money takes you away from other humans, and is addictive.

An addict wrote your economics book, and a bunch of addicts make the rules of this country, and most of the brain-dead citizens of this country are perfectly happy buying their way through their tedious, exhausting  life of social climbing and never having enough.  The planet is dying, but they don't have TIME for all that when they need a new couch and a new therapist and they have an appointment to microdose some MDMT later this week, to ease their crushing anxiety. The planet is dying, didn't you notice?

Who has TIME for  a family, or any kind of attachments, unless they;re going on a trip with you, or you're having all kinds of inventive sex with them?  Now that's an ROI you can work with.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to write this creative content for this ad, so I can go to Mexico next week. By myself.  I've been scrolling dating sites like mad, but I can't find a suitable companion.  I like crazy crazy sex, with guys much better-looking than I am, even though I'm kind of a toss.  Life is not fair.

Didn't you already buy your electric car, and put your solar panels up, since you're in the top 5%?  Then you're already saving lots of money that the poorers don't get to save.  You can afford some caulk.  You got a tax break for that.  I can't get that.  I can't call a guy to come make my house as perfectly energy-efficient as it can be, because I can't afford to.  But  you can, and you'll save all that money that lesser mortals than you won't get to do.
I bet you also get significant breaks in your income, since you make plenty of money and know all the tricks to not pay so much for all that shiat you have hoarded away. Stuff that the poors will never have, because the rich have hoarded it and made it invisible for tax purposes.  I can't do that with anything I own.

I don't know all the ways that rich people shield their shiat, because of course this is a secret society that I have no entrance to.  But you probably know.  I have known some rich people and they are all as dishonest as the entire field of economics, the "science" that starts out with a lie about endless resources for all of us.  Why would you base your life around a lie?  And then trot it out here like it's something we should respect?  You must think that all people are as gullible as you are.

So you're saying that you want the freedom to hang on to everything that you always had, PLUS get all the new stuff, and it shouldn't ever cost you more than what it did five years ago?

My wife just got a promotion and with this year's COLA, she's making 41% more than three years ago. Which is good because Medicare ate my SS COLA last year.  I've talk about a HUGE SS increase coming down the pike, but I suspect another increase in Medicare for another expensive drug that doesn't work will kill the increase.

If your employer is raising prices, your employer has baked in raises. Ask for one.

companies are protecting margins. if the cost of goods sold increases, and margin stays static, gross profit increases.

its only one factor of the whole mess we are in, but it is one

Your initial comment wasn't wrong, it's just an incredibly unpopular perspective in our high consumption culture.  It's not surprising, considering that you'd have to at least be in your 80s, like my parents and in-laws, to remember what the world was like before the post-WWII years brought about the widespread prosperity that birthed the way of life most people alive today in the developed world take for granted.

If, as I suspect, Farkers are fairly representative of Americans in general, it seems we've lost the ability to distinguish between essentials and non-essentials.  Take the time to use Farky as a means to identify people whose opinions can be ignored, and it becomes clear pretty quickly.  What I've seen?  People who talk in one thread about how tight their finances have become due to recent inflation, will talk in another thread about the vacation they're planning.  Or the concert they just attended.  Or the movie they went to see.  Or the restaurant they recently visited.  Or the upgrades they made to their computer so they can play the latest video game.  The list of such non-essentials goes on and on.

Our 24/7 marketing machine has convinced a helluva lot of people that those are essentials, but they're not.  It's done a great job of telling people they deserve all of those things, and giving them up, even for just a short period of time, has become anathema.  The pandemic demonstrated that pretty clearly, and people's unwillingness to give up their way of life ensured that the pandemic wouldn't go away quickly.

Medicare prices are going down next year.
