"The Austin Police Department said it's an active case, and the manure-smearing portion could hit the point of criminal mischief."

But not the stealing?

If they try to steal your car.
The down side of ring cameras is that you can't lie.

"Dirty diapers!"

I live in that area and I gotta say... stopped getting my packages at home years ago and only get them at the office or amazon lockers because package theft is not something the cops in Austin do any work to stop.

Not a single package has been stolen since, and the inconvenience hasn't been worth mentioning.  I'm not saying it's perfect, but it beats engaging in a freaking literal crap war.

Seems like finding a black Suburban with no plates wouldn't be that hard.

Surprised the cops even care. Around here they would tell the homeowners to fark off.

Oh yeah, hit the prankers back because the package you stole from them didn't contain anything valuable like you hoped. Because *they're* the assholes in this situation.

Man, people really suck sometimes.

""I tried to pull on their emotions or something," Walker said. "I just ran out and said, 'I have a baby,' and they looked at me and just laughed. It was a really upsetting moment."

I don't know what made this dope expect criminals to have any sense of decency or humanity. We always hear about "non-violent offenders" not needing incarceration. Violent offenders tend to be people who make bad decisions in a moment of surging emotions. They are fundamentally human. Punishment should be aimed at rehabilitation.

Not so with property crimes. When it comes to property crimes, they're just opportunists who don't care about others rights or property.  They don't have a sense of humanity to which to appeal. Punishment should be aimed at restitution. They can spend some hard time repairing the public's property - say, infrastructure projects.  We've got a lot of bridges, roads, and seawalls that need work.
