Bailed after two. "The Bulls were bad for a while!" isn't a historic blunder. It's just shiat that happens.

Yeah, settling a team competition with an individual skills contest was and continues to be farked in the head.

_/10 min four on four OT. Still no score? That's a legitimate tie. One point to each team
_/_/& the 10 minutes would probably be over faster than the 5 min OT and then the skills competition.

The Bulls have nothing on the Edmonton Oilers.  Their boys club was so incestuous they once fired a coach and GM only to re-hire them a few years later as GM and President.  And then there was the Red Wine Club.  Ten years of shiatty drafting, trades and free agent signings until falling face first over Connor McDavid.

The MLB owners gutting the power of the commissioner's officer and turning it into the least independent head position of a sports league should be at the top of the list.

15 Unforgivable Blunders By The People Running Pro Sports

I didn't realize that "Pro Sports" consisted of 90% basketball, with passing mention of baseball and hockey, and no other sports exist.

Such a lazy article, even by "listicle" standards.  If all you know or care about is basketball, just make it about that.

Maybe it's just that basketball owners suck that much more than the other major sports.  That would be an enormous achievement.

2 of the list items are recognized as being inevitable. Not sure how you can call them a blunder when the people involved recognized the situation for what it was.

OT sucked when they first introduced it.  It was just an additional period.  The first 5 minutes was fun but it was followed by two exhausted teams playing not to lose.  It got boring.  The first I was at a game with a shootout, it was like a wet towel was thrown on the arena.  The 4 on 4 after regulation was exciting then the horn blew and everything came to a standstill.  I understand the player need to finish the game and go home but the shootout should be the exception.  The current solution is better than it was so I don't mind it too much.

Oh...  I don't have a problem with ties either.

Muta: Oh...  I don't have a problem with ties either.

I never had a problem with ties either, but the NHL seemed hell-bent on getting rid of them, and I don't have a huge problem either with the shootout as a method to do that.  After all, the penalty shot has long been a part of hockey, and shootouts have long been used in international hockey, so it wasn't that much of a gimmick as people said.

My problem is that the NHL borked the standings by messing up the point system.  Now games are not equal impact on the standings - some games are worth 2 points and some are worth 3.  This has distorted the standings by inflating point totals for teams that play a lot of OT games, and now winning % and points % are two completely different things, yet they get conflated and confused when people talk about them.

You want to not penalize teams as much for losing a shootout, but still give the shootout winner more points?  Simple, make all games worth 3 points:
-You get 3 points for winning in regulation or OT
-You get 2 points for winning in a SO
-You get 1 point for losing in a SO
-You get 0 points for losing in regulation or OT.

This will make things more consistent and uniform by making every game count the same in the standings.  It will incentivize teams going harder for the win before the shootout (since that's the only way to get all 3 points).  It will give the winner of the shootout more points than the loser, while still not making the loser walk away with nothing.

It's such a simple and obvious solution to a glaring problem, so it's no wonder that the NHL hasn't even considered it.

bostonguy: MLB creating the designated hitter.

Yeah, it was ludicrous that the AL adopted the designated hitter in 1973, it should have been implemented prior to 1910 when Connie Mack was arguing for it.

I had to double check the headline to make sure that the sharticle wasn't an NBA-only list. No Herschel Walker trade? No Mike Ditka trading the entire draft for Ricky Williams? This list was so incomplete it boggles the mind.

/if you're gonna shiat on the Bulls for being bad after the MJ years (and believe me, they were), why not look at the Bears instead who wasted a Super Bowl caliber team in the '80s and have wallowed in mediocrity ever since?

Even 100 years ago, very few pitchers could hit.

Let's be fair and extend that to the past 120 years (I don't know enough about 19th century baseball to comment there).

There were two pitchers who could hit well enough to get in a lineup regularly. And one was literally the greatest player in MLB history.

One was removed from pitching because it wasn't considered feasible to be a pitcher and an every day fielder in 1920. Without the DH, Ohtani would probably also have had to make a choice of hitting or pitching regularly.

None could hit well 100 years ago.

Ruth stopped pitching after 1919 and was a full time outfielder once he joined the Yankees. He had a few appearances with the Yankees but they were "nobody is available, we need someone on the mound" situations.

That said, by all appearances he still pitched fairly well and got the win for every game he appeared in. He wasn't your average outfielder stuck on the mound.

I have to wonder how the Herschel Walker trade did not make the list, it was the worst trade by any team in the history of the NFL.

Jesus, they're still going on about Colin Kaepernick? HE WASN'T THAT GOOD!

Let's look at the "travesty of justice" they list in the DeShaun Watson hiring:
Watson's WORST year was a 98 passer rating.
Kaepernick's BEST year got him 98.3.

Kaepernick has an average rating of 88.9, Watson 104.5

Watson comes with problems, we all know, but a straight performance? Watson blows Kaepernick out of the water. People keep forgetting he' a middle of the road QB to begin with.

*sigh*

Ron Harper in a Cavs uniform for more than three seasons. Woulda, coulda, shoulda been so. The Cavs just had to give up Harper and two first round picks to the Clippers for the rights to a Blue Devil who was playing overseas because he refused to play for the Clippers.

"LA has no leverage here, we'll up our offer!"

How?

Still no guarantee those A- Cavs teams get by the Bulls but damn, a B+ player and former Rookie of the Year along with two first rounders would have helped a hell of a lot more than Danny farking Ferry. fark me.
