Goddamn, they wasted no time. It's already off HBOMax which is where I randomly found it. Great show. Of course it was cancelled on a cliffhanger.

S1 was absolutely brilliant. Couldn't get into the groove of S2.

As a grown ass man who watches cartoons, I did not like final space. I found all of the characters unbearable, the animation awful, and the story unoriginal.
Sorry if you don't agree.

That there is what I call a guilt-free download if they are going to deliberately make content unavailable. Keep up the good work.

That cannot be sustenable on the long run.

Thats cool...  I dont know why, but i gave it a try with my daughter (was 10 or 11)...   we loved it.  one thing that stood out was the music.   fantastic...  yeah that characters were all weird, but thats what made the show goofy fun.

bummer it ended on a cliffhanger.

i already downloaded the entire series so screw WB...

i don't know Final Space in particular, but it's got to be disheartening to create anything and then give it over to disinterested interests to keep or kill on a whim, or give over to some other creative to distort beyond recognition. doesn't seem like a set up likely to encourage art

Everything you just said is the exact opposite for me. Except that I also am grown and watch cartoons.

It's sad that media can just disappear, never to be experienced by anyone again because some company decided it isn't worth their time to make it available. There are tons of movies and TV shows that were on video tape, which never made the jump to DVD. Music from the 80's is not available to even buy as a downloadable copy from Amazon or Apple Music, and sometimes I can't even find music on CD at the library.

And don't even get me started about the travesty surrounding the show WKRP in Cincinnatti.

Good question. Could they do a copyright strike on something that has been "buried" like this. Hard to claim lost revenue on it for sure.

Final Space wasn't a great show but, for reasons I can't explain, I ended up really liking it anyway.  It aimed much higher than it was capable of delivering on but every season got closer to being able to live up to its promise.  I really wish iat had been able to complete the 5-season story that was the original plan, and even incomplete the show deserved better than to fall into the WB void.

i was gonna say...
"Final Space will no longer be available to find online"
i dont think that's how the internet works.

it will no longer be generating them online revenue, is maybe what they meant to say.

I watched the first 2 seasons.  It was ok.  One of those things I would watch when I was done with more interesting things.

Seems really strange to permanently remove content you own.  Even shows with a small fanbase can keep popularity for decades, and can occasionally get a successful reboot.  Having less content is like shooting yourself in the foot.

Shout! Factory has done yeoman's work in trying to correct this with WKRP in Cincinnati: The Complete Series...The image quality, considering this series was originally shot on video tape, is almost uniformly outstanding. And, once again, Andy is overseeing a station playing the likes of Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, AC/DC, the Grateful Dead, Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, the Cars, Wings and the Police, instead of a series of featureless Muzak tracks.

I picked this up a few years ago. Outside of one Pink Floyd, two Beatles songs and maybe one other tune, all the songs were restored. Sound quality is decent. The video quality is as good as it's going to get, until better AI upscaling becomes common. Worth every penny.

This sucks but WB/Discovery is $53 billion dollars in debt and lost over $3.4 billion in 2Q this year.  They have only  2 tent pole movies (Black Adam and Shazam 2) in the pipeline expected to make a profit in the next 6 months.  HBO is sucking money out of the company (House of Dragons averaged $20 per episode) and does not bring in WB largest revenue (advertising).  Good new content is going to disappear as the can't afford to make it anymore and old content will disappear because they eliminate more debt by writing it off than by getting people to pay to watch it.  Things are going to get real bad as all those commercial filled channels become like TNT or AMC where its 150 minutes of commercials for a 90 minute movie and there are no 30 minute shows because there's 40 minutes of commercial in every one of them.

The Wikipedia article states that the show was shot on video tape because licensing fees were cheaper for shows shot that way (a loophole meant to accommodate variety shows.) I wonder how well it could be cleaned up further. I can't see AI upscaling ever being competent on a large scale like this.

But I'm glad to hear this set is good. A friend of mine watched the series recently and said it holds up well with no decline in writing or poorly dating episodes. I've even heard the sequel series was decent, though short lived. Maybe I'll pick this up.

(On the flip, my friend gave up on Taxi because the writing became awful around the third season and gave up on Soap and Barney Miller when the episodes featured jokes that didn't date.)

While I enjoyed the first season of Final Space, the show just got more and more depressing as it went on. Not sure if I could handle a 4th season if that trajectory continued.

More on topic, how can they write off a show that aired for 3 seasons? You'd think that if anyone was interested in the streaming/syndication rights that the company that owned the rights couldn't just say "see, nobody is willing to pay for the rights so we can right off some made up amount of money."

There should be a law saying that using the tax write-off on a show means it now belongs to the public domain.

After all, Uncle Sam paid for it ,
