POTUS stealing classified documents, to be used for future blackmail of his own government. That is not something you hear about every day, from any nation.

2022-09-27 4:25:01 AM
Because he's never been held accountable for anything illegal he has ever done?

2022-09-27 6:03:03 AM
He knew he had nothing left to give the Russian and Saudi loansharks to prevent his own "fall down the escalator" except his country's secrets -- so that's what he stole.

2022-09-27 6:47:25 AM
I don't care why trump committed espionage. I just want him held accountable.

Yup.
Trump is an amoral sociopath and narcissistic personality. He absolutely sold out Americans for fun and profit. It probably never occurred to Donald that what he was doing was illegal. He seems to believe he is above the law.

Bothered to stop him?

It's not that easy for someone to walk off with state secrets like that.. or even walk into the same room with them.  A moron certainly could not have figured out how to do it.  He had help.

It's a safe bet at least some of that stuff was just gathered up willy-nilly and Trump genuinely has no idea what he took. Hence his demand to see the docs so his lawyers can decide what the defense should be. (They were YOUR property, dumbass, don't you know what they are?)

Otoh, Trump is like any other thief that would steal something he's not quite sure of the value, then shop it around to fish for a good price. "Oh, you think $50 million is good? I dunno, it seems like it could be worth more...can you do $85 million?"

And at least part of it was so he could sit in his "45 Room" surrounded by Real Government Documents and play President again as if he never lost. farking psycho.

Perhaps they did some sort of IRL remake of that James Caan (pretty sure it was James Caan) movie where the rich dude buys a night with the dude who just lost everything's wife?

They have to get to a SCIF first:  Immediately after any WH meeting, all docs are to be left on the table.  NARA comes in, catalogs, then prepares for transport.

You're clerking and watching the docs while transport folks/stuff gets there, and POTUS walks in and takes something - That's a No that probably feels super not even considered in your paygrade.

He did because he knew no one was gonna stop him at that point.

In the SCIF - those guys probably have guns and make sure shiat don't leave, no matter who it is.

They just have to get to the SCIF first.

Jared had already given MBS a list of all his domestic enemies for his purge, so it could just be a delayed payment.

Deep down inside he's truly a very insecure human being and he desperately craves attention and adulation. He believes trinkets and mementos showing his power and success will impress people cause them to love him.

Call his bluff (which looks like what the DOJ is doing), and prosecute him. Nobody gives two sh*ts about his slack-jawed followers. If they're dumb enough to hitch their wagons to TFG, that's on them. Honestly, between the Trumpers and the Qberts, I never realised that this country had so many people so lacking in basic critical thinking.

Do they....do they not do a document inventory? That seems like a massive oversight if they don't do some sort of document inventory. How would you ever know something was missing if you didn't do an inventory?

Well, the president has the luxury of someone else signing for and bringing things to him, and a lot of leeway when it comes to handling. This always worked fine when the president was actually interested in safeguarding national security, and brought reasonably competent staff who believed that rule-following was how you got a good career in public service, and acknowledged that the luxuries and leeway ended with their presidency, which did in fact have an end.

Unfortunately, the last person did the opposite of all that, and well, here we are.

The worst part is that he thinks that he's a genius - I mean, full-on SMRT - because he did something so stupid, so reckless, so malevolent, that no one else who made it into the office would even try to do it because of the potential harm it could cause the entire country (if not the world.)

"I FIGURED OUT HOW TO GIVE THAT DAMNED MONKEY DYNAMITE AND TRAIN HIM TO USE IT! I'M SMRT!"

That's Trump. Too ignorant to realize the consequences, too belligerent to learn about them from anyone else.

I believe it's a significant portion of that. His entire existence is "see all.my trappings of wealth and power? Now love and respect me!"

I also believe he'd sell/trade the stuff, too.

With the DOJ's hesitancy to publicize the affidavit and all the redactions once they did along with the original reason for not publicizing the affidavit (could jeopardize other investigations), I suspect the DOJ is looking into it.

Well yeah - again - POTUS - regardless if it was an actual shiatheel who lucked into the title - carries a lot of 'leeway':  particularly in the walls of the private residence:  That is how they knew what docs he likely had - the pre-transport portion had catalogued them - when transport got there, there had to be notations as to 'POTUS has doc A12345r.4 or however they catalog them, so they knew what items he had.

But that was how some NARA folks interviewed earlier this year described the classification - they swoop in, catalogue all docs left from that meeting, then arrange for them to go to wherever those docs go by type.  If someone comes in before they are taken out of the room - particularly if that someone is POTUS/Meadows/Pence, etc.....how can you legit assert immediate authority?  It would be like having the parking ticket guy deliver your pink slip:  You'd laugh and be all 'Yeah, OK...good one, Bob.' (And Trump knows the TOP SECRET label on those ups any street value a few billion at least.)

NARA can send him 'gentle reminders' while he's POTUS - but who is going to legitimately have FBI storm the private WH Quarters getting docs out of Trump's sock drawer while he's POTUS?

Ever seen a filing system of someone who, shall we say, is not considered highly organized.

(I can speak from experience on this one - because yeah - it's similar my filing system)

You put shiat in piles/boxes, to 'deal with later'.  He keeps boxes in the residence to just throw shiat in - that's how boxes with multiple documents over years of collection wind up in the poolhouse of a twice-impreached former POTUS who is totally selling us out in broad daylight.

He had four years of daily 'deal with later' stuff to get his tiny hands on.
