Mallory was the one who went missing on Everest. Hillary succeeded and lived to a ripe old age.

That's why it's not a repeat.

"They had reached the true summit late Monday morning, Outside magazine reported the managing director of the guiding company they were with said."

wat?  It's also weird that the accompanying video is about abortion rights in a small town in Illinois.  The whole article is a mess.

Some people are cut from different cloth entirely.  I know some adventurous people, but no one who would ever dream of leaving behind two children to ski down the 8th largest mountain in the world.  I'm either not very exciting, or I know some reasonable people.

I feel bad for laughing at the headline.

In all seriousness, I have no desire to go to Mount Everest.

I find your lack of sherpas disturbing.

What someone needed to say to her face when she proposed skiing down a nearly 27k mountain:

shut up, silly woman

Sometimes even riders on a storm don't have what it takes to make it through to morning.

Technically the headline is correct then, very obvious, but correct.

I've seen a few big adventurers talk about not liking the risk but feel committed because it's their job and they don't really know how to make an income otherwise.

I'm glad you shared that tidbit, and I'll wonder about it.  Thank you, phoenix352.  So much of what I see that is so daring, risky, or reckless, some of it seems like a natural extension or part of a ladder.  I don't think too much of how it gets there, especially the really crazy stuff.

I remember how that worked when I was younger and willing to take the next risk.  I never got there, obviously, not even close, but I appreciate the perspective you helped me develop.

Thread is probably dead, sorry you might not see that I said "Thanks!"  Take care out there.
