I'll wager it will work just as it has in Murica where the future "troublemakers" are almost always the local minority.

Several Florida sheriff's have already been caught doing just that

Good, the more threatened and oppressed the people are, the more that creativity, expression and innovation will be stifled and the more the people will start edging toward their next revolution

Chinas biggest enemy presently is themselves, so I hope they keep going all in on their police state and it blows up in their face in the most spectacular fashion

Waste of time. Ted Cruz and other right wing fascists are working hard at transforming schools into prisons by writing bills to add an even greater police presence in schools. In a few years, the pigs will probably replace the teachers all together

It's absolutely true, but that particular article was remarkably light on content.

Maintaining a surveillance system of that size would be extremely expensive.

This is a good opportunity to remind everyone that Trump pardoned Sheriff Joe Arpaio after getting convicted of arresting anyone who "looked illegal" (ie Hispanics).

That strategy is a daily reality in China, and whether or not the 1.4 billion people living there actually pose a threat or are comfortable being surveilled all the time doesn't seem to matter, the New York Times reported yesterday. Authorities collect huge quantities of footage, data and patterns that help identify threats to the Chinese government. They target ethnic minorities, people with mental illnesses and migrants.

Good thing this would never happen in a Democracy.

Well, I mean, you only actually monitor it in areas with a large number of minorities

Seriously, dodged a bullet there.  Thank GOD that people in the US and UK don't live in a society where they are constantly surveilled 24/7.   Phew!

According to Snowden, Canada does shady shiat too.

Isn't this what we do with the "red flag laws" for gun control in USA?

I don't think too many people have an issue with the idea of using proactive measures to prevent crime, just so long as they're not the ones subject to surveillance.

Price isn't a thing there..China puts up a fake front that a lot of people believe..That fake front
includes this Potemkin corporate and banking/financial system that is really just a lot of shell game
shuffling. The state decides what factories are going to make what, how much of it, how fast, how many
people they will throw at it  and what the product will cost. If the party says, send 500 people from this
factory to this factory to boost production of this product, those people will go there and do that.

This facade of inter-corporate competition is only for the outside world. The party manipulates everything
for the party. Their sham shell games with money and financing are just jerking off for the rest of the worlds
benefit so China can more easily use those systems.. There is nothing legitimately competitive
between Chinese firms..Because there is no competition when one boss runs them all..

It's going to always miss the point of the precrimes story. The psychic triad could sense the ideation of violence, and the brothers saw the violent outcome of the ideation. The female (as usual) would be ignored because she didn't sense the ideation turning to action. There's a lot of criminal ideation in the world. Lots of criminal opportunities.

East Germany did it.  The problem is, you drown in the minutiae and miss the big picture, like the Berlin Wall coming down.

Because China has too many people and they already have enough slave workers, they need a way to fast-track execution of the excess.

The more you tighten your grip, China, the more....oppression your people will feel.

Remember, kids: China ISN'T socialist. They're an authoritarian regime that preys on its own people for power and wealth.

They're already doing it.

And for some reason the AI generated put put does seem to always point out minorities.

Chicago tried it for a while.  It turned out as expected.

Predictive analysis of crime winds up that way even with out some racist shart making it worse.

1. This area (historically where those people live) has a high crime rate.
2. We should increase policing there.
3. We caught more criminals*.
4. Goto 1.

*Even with the best of intentions, if you watch someone 24 hours/ day you will see a crime of some sort. Even if it is just a $10 ticket, that adds up and will worsen the cycle of poverty/ crime. Then, you goto 1.

This most likely will be used to break up the crime of protesting.

China (Shanghai) is increasing the use of cameras but most are Red-light cameras at intersections.

Yeah, because we're not under constant surveillance by our phones.

Mine's always so dumb and wrong. No history of wine reading or buying but whenever I say, "it's beer o'clock somewhere' it pops up a "buy shiat" reminder about wine o'clock.

No thanks. No.

Already a thing here in the US, but it's targeted in certain neighborhoods at certain usual suspects and their families.

Same basic program where cities pay offenders to not reoffend, but focusing on the stick side more than the carrot side.

You know that you don't HAVE to own one. People did manage life without constantly being available
or needing to be able to tethered to everyone they know (and a lot they don't) at all times..
