Being good at spinning dough and making boxes doesn't mean you can make good pizza.
The guy that spins the "We buy gold" sign on the street can probably do that too.

I like to go to "pizza by the slice" places and watch them toss and spin the little triangles.

The best way to make a pizza is to roll the dough. The acrobatics BS is just for show, like bartenders spinning bottles.

Funny, but no re: sign spinning. It's hard, and it only looks easy because people who've put the time in MAKE it look easy. And it's part of the "making" of pizza as much all of the other stuff is. It's part of the recipe.

You sound like someone that falls for dumb gimmicks.

The ingredients make a good pizza. Not how high in the air you can throw the dough. Rolling the raw crust over my shoulders like a Harlem Globe Trotter doesn't make the pizza taste better

Sure but maybe spend the countless hours of practice on actually making better pizza than just spinning the dough around.

Every part is needed to make a great pizza. Dough, sauce, and cheese. Mess one up and the pizza is rooined.

if you cannot sell the steak, sell the sizzle.

agreed, tossing it high in the air is just for show, but it does catch a persons eye.

Kids are entertained and laughing, and you may snag a number of someone cute now and then.

Cool gimmick tho I guess

Impressive, but my opinion is "keep that schitt in the kitchen." It is great that people enjoy watching his obvious skill but I am not big on the whole dinner and a show (unless the show is being seated next to an obvious first date that is going really well, there is just something endearing about that) so things like this are lost on me. Yes, old person is old. Thank you for asking.

Having lived in Safety Harbor I'll say the pizza is not great not terrible. Better than most pizza I had in Florida. The drinks are not watered down. I used to ride my bicycle there so I wouldn't have to drive home.

Shhhh! These are people on the internet, so they are experts. Unfortunately, even though YOU are also a "person on the internet", you will never be the level of expert that these people are. It doesn't even actually matter what the topic is, the internet experts are always the bestest!! if they want to eat their pizza on a cracker, no amount of reality will ever sink in.

It's not like the centrifugal force would cause dough to build up along the outer edge, forming a pillowier crust or anything...

Can't be emphasized enough. You don't get a Neapolitan or New York-style pizza with rolled dough. You need a stretched dough to get the right texture. You want a "thin-crust" cracker pizza? Sure, roll the dough.

You want a real pizza? Stretch the dough.

Bleah. Rolling dough is for folks who want Domino's "thin crust." Stretched dough is where it's at, and the acrobatics BS is, indeed, just for show.

Oh that type of dinner and a show I enjoy. I am talking about things like the cooks coming out to toss dough in the seating area or bartenders tossing bottles and cups around or attention whores dribbling salt down their arm or singing waitstaff and other such nonsense.

Tossing and rolling produce different density crusts.

Yeah, well, I would imagine the spinning bottle bit gets them sooooooo laid.

So the skill does have some intrinsic value

I put mustard on my sausage and pepper (and onion) subs ( though if your putting mozzarella on it, i'll go with tomato sauce)

...yes? Rolling and stretching aren't the same thing. Tossing is stretching. We're in complete agreement. You can stretch without tossing.

I like to leave a good 'ridge' around the circumference for a good crust

/can you pull that off win a rolling pin?
//I usually punch down the center and form by hand until around 8", then toss  a few times to stretch, then kinda let it hand on the counter as i shuffle my hands along the edge (spinning the pie) to  make the 'ridge' as uniform as I can
///then after i eat the pizza part, I split the crust and sprinkle just bit of salt on it

i also do a lot of the stretching by letting it hang over the backs of my hands and  working it around (spin a bit and stretch a bit, repeat as needed) in between tosses
