I was so excited to see Blonde when I heard about it.
Now that I am seeing details and reviews, not so much.

They immediately said it was a fictionalized version of her life.
That means they are going for the Game of Thrones effort to acquire viewers.

Same here. I never thought there would be anything that could keep me from seeing Ana De Armas in anything, but this just sounds exploitative and depressing through and through.

I missed the tab this was on, and was expecting a business article about working in corporate America. Me and my 17+ years at an insurance company are disappoint

What pops into my head every time someone mentions Marilyn Monroe:

convey a version of Monroe who ebbed and flowed, who did not steer her own ship.

Everyone who has read anything about Marilyn Monroe already knows that--that she was exploited mercilessly.
The harvest has been really good ever since then.  We have the money to turn a turd into a movie star, then turn them back into a turd in front of the whole world.

Your entertainment dollars at work.

Peak?  I've know a few authors who's writing style seems to be "what's the worst that can happen to this character?".

Doing the same with non-fiction, especially when you know the result is suicide seems especially sad.  But from what I've seen from current culture, hitting bottom only means breaking out the shovels.

We haven't even begun to mine the trauma of those who have had their childhoods ruined over and over again by some new adaptation.

If they hadn't made her a victim, millennials and Zers wouldn't have watched it.

You just gave me a great idea for a HBO series.

Basically, it will be The Handmaid's Tale, but the handmaids will instead be young dudes forced to endure Star Wars and Marvel movies that aren't exactly as they want them to be.

The series will explore the deep scars left behind as these abused young men are forced to watch the wrong kind of people star in these important epics, delving into the trauma they experience and how, through things like Brie Larson movies, these young men are made into second class citizens, with only about 80% of all the entertainment out there geared towards them. It will explore how a bad Star Wars movie is, at its core, practically the same thing as being repeatedly assaulted before being nailed to a cross in the town square.

I don't know if the world is ready for a show as grim as this, especially if dealt with truthfully. It would basically be like the Red Wedding meets a Holocaust documentary meets Roots meets The Passion of the Christ, but someone has to be bold enough to tell their story, lest their tragedy be forgotten.

Only strangely related, but my favorite "Marilyn" movie is definitely Nicolas Roeg's Insignificance. It's thought-provoking, sometimes funny and sometimes poignant; each of the characters plays an archetype of a famous person (Einstein, Monroe, Joe DiMaggio, and McCarthy) to explore life, love, politics, and artifice.

Monroe "dies" in a nuclear holocaust (sort of), and yet that still feels less misery-porn than this movie does.
