"FIX OLD! NO NEW" is kind of a mantra for these folks. And the idea of a functional IRS really makes a lot of Congresscritters nervous.

PROTECT THE RICH AT ALL COSTS!

2022-09-26 10:20:17 AM
But they will "re-allocate" all the AR-15s those new IRS "agents" were supposed to receive to angry 18-20 years olds.

DEFUND THE TAX POLICE!

2022-09-26 10:41:45 AM
So, they are going for the soft on crime approach?  I would rather they catch the cheaters before raising taxes to make up the shortfall.  That hurts the honest people, which is mostly middleclass.

2022-09-26 11:02:07 AM
This idea is so farking dumb it might actually work.  I'm sure that anyone south of the 75 IQ line can't wait to vote straight ticket Republican.

The GOP is soft on crime I guess

2022-09-26 11:07:53 AM
Republicans also said they would severely punish the FBI for their legal and justified raid on Mar a Lago.
So there's that.

If you're voting Republican your probably don't think of yourself as a Nazi. You probably don't even hold with the ideals of the Nazi party or white supremacy groups. But you do vote for the same party they do.

meat0918: The GOP is soft on crime I guess

Republicans believe that laws don't apply to rich white people. Everyone else gets hammered down hard tho.

2022-09-26 11:08:59 AM
Ah yes, the party of law and order, right?  Would hate to see tax cheats have to pay their legally obligated share. And we're sure glad we won't have that revenue coming in, right?

2022-09-26 11:10:20 AM
As someone who deals with the IRS on a near daily basis, I want them to triple that number of new agents. I want people manning the phonelines 24/7. I want POA requests to be accepted in days, not weeks. I want people opening up mailed-in tax returns to have a better than one year turnaround time.

This is just my general every day grievances with that starved agency.

That they're adding agents to go after tax evaders is just icing on the cake!

Good bumper sticker slogan.

Why is it, every time I read something about how the GQP is going to "fix" America, I lose IQ points just for reading this drivel?

Is the GQP Kool-Aid so strong that people lose all common sense and not be able to see past the smoke and mirrors to the truth?

Come on November 9th!!

2022-09-26 11:12:58 AM
You can either enforce existing tax laws and collect taxes based on that, or you can pass new laws and collect taxes to make up for all the taxes that aren't being paid and aren't being enforced. Republicans don't want new taxes--I mean, who does? But now they're vowing to let people just stop paying existing taxes. They've done that behind closed doors for ages, but this is a bold new direction. You can't run a country without taxes. The last country to do that was... that one... the... uh... the ones with the hats... I forget, oh  yeah, that has never happened.

Taxes are a necessary evil of organized society. You can make sure the money is used as efficiently as possible. You can try to keep it as low as possible. The best way to do that is to make sure existing tax law is being enforced. No more, and no less.

2022-09-26 11:13:29 AM
What was that saying?  If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear?  Close enough.  Wouldn't want IRS agents to be able to find all of the tax evasion in this country, that would be bad for republican voters.

Ok. Have fun getting Biden to sign that bill.

I hate how the media reports these stories like one one chamber of the house passes a bill somehow it becomes law.

Look at all the people that have been harmed by the IRS.  Al Capone, Willy Nelson, Wesley Snipes.  The list is endless.

LOL. Later: "Hey, why is taking 10 months to get my refund?"

2022-09-26 11:15:30 AM
So they're already setting out plans on how they're going to waste time and not do anything.

Assuming they have the House next year, they can probably pass this.  Sure, why not.  How are they passing a Dem controlled Senate?  Or is he assuming they take the Senate too, and then nuking the filibuster?  Ok, fine.  Now, how are you getting the president to sign it, as it's never going to get a veto-proof majority vote?

Just more demonstrative BS, like voting ~60 times to repeal the ACA.

Something crazy like 8 rich people own 90% of the corporate news media and basically control the bulk of what gets reported on the evening news and how it gets presented.
That's why all the mainstream media news coverage looks and sounds the same. It's basically standardized and prepackaged, just like anything else produced on an assembly line.

If I were an R, I'd state "we're gonna take those 87k jerbs and make them Federal Period Monitors.  If you miss a period, a Period Monitor will show up with a pregnancy test.  If positive and the baby carriers shows abortion tendacies, we move the baby carrier to a federal birthing center for federal health and prayers.

Like all government employees, the bad ones can't be fired. They just hire a new idiot to work alongside the lazy one, until the lazy one rubs off on the new idiot, and they have to hire a newer idiot to replace the lazy idiot. Rinse and repeat until you have a bloated, dysfunctional system.

Now the government wants to hire more of these lazy idiots and give them guns.

Nah. Right now, the GOP is getting their asses kicked over abortion. They're desperate to change the subject, create a distraction or blame Biden for *something*. They're bleeding out rivers of money, women voters hate Republicans and defending espionage isn't a winning issue.
Going after the IRS is certainly a something, but it won't help the GOP stop the bleeding.

And we all know a 2-week old account with stupid opinions on things they don't understand is totally legit and we should welcome you with open arms into our online community.

I have an alternative idea for you:

so, about 50K are reaching retirement age over the next few years. the 87k is a hiring / backfilling program that will take years. so fast forward about 5 years and we'll have a massive shortage of IRS labor?

You just include it as part of the continuing resolution that funds the government. Biden either signs it or he shuts the government down.

Things like this are why I go exempt in payroll for the last 3 months of the year. I do my taxes, maybe owe a little bit, and I mail them the check in April. Do that and you don't have to wait around for your money to be in your hands.

Consider the IRS doesn't even have 87k FTE.  https://www.irs.gov/statistics/irs-budget-and-workforce
So, sure, keep gutting until the only feasible auditing is whatever can be fully automated, which means of teh poors, then keep going.  Right.

As someone who practices before the IRS I can tell you that this is stupid advice and to not follow it.

That having been said, as always, consult your own professional tax advisor before doing stupid things people on Fark suggest when it comes to your taxes/finances.

Oh, yeah.  The 1800's were certainly a stable and healthy time without any issues of lax law enforcement, dual sovereignty conflicts, labor problems, worker protections, solid health services or coordinated public health response, with a usefully maintained military, maintained roads, social safety nets, etc.

We should certainly go back to a funding model for a country existing in 1870.  We'd have all the freedums in the worldz, and we'd definitely still be able to operate as a modern nation, like all of those other massive modern powerhouses that operate today without income tax structures.  I mean, we could be like Brunei.  Who wouldn't want that?

I've done it for years because the whole bonus thing gets taxes screwed up. Bonus money gets taxed at a higher rate and I don't want to wait for it to be refunded to me. Instead, I adjust my tax withholdings so 100% of the money is in my wallet and then I pay the treasury if I owe anything. A check to the IRS for a couple hundred dollars is nothing to get worried about.
