"So, they don't ACTUALLY teach CRT in any of our schools, but they do teach this sissy 'social emotional learning' crap that is turning our kids into p*ssies who think and learn to find solutions that don't involve punching out Libs or screaming at people. So, let's go after that instead, because if we don't, our kids are going to realize we are some heavily damaged people."

One of the side effects of social emotional learning is finding out your parents are emotionally stunted assholes.

I can see why asshole parents would be upset about that.

They fear what they don't understand, which is pretty much everything.

2022-09-26 10:26:39 AM
The American Taliban needs suicide bombers and school shooters. Not boys capable of emotional intelligence and critical thinking.

Better yet, the Maggots don't have to lift a finger in the parenting department.

Social Emotional Learning has its flaws, but it is mostly good for kids.  MAGAs hate anything that is good for kids.

Anything that doesn't teach cruelty or dronelike button-pushing is useless to them.

This comes from the same people that claim kids are not taught to be respectful anymore and young people are just criminals and blah blah blah.

As always, don't expect consistency from this crowd. You will get none.

Social-emotional learning is necessary because MAGAts are such shiat parents they fark up their kids' heads and turn them into broken people instead.

A couple years ago there was a little introduction to our kid's schools social emotional learning program. I remember thinking the I wished I had a program like that when I was a kid.
It was pretty basic stuff. How to be respectful and think about other people instead of just yourself. The maga cult must hate it.

Essentially, social-emotional learning teaches students how to manage their emotions, how to make good decisions, how to collaborate and how to understand themselves and others better.

Well there's your problem.  If people understood how to make good decisions there wouldn't be any MAGA cultists.

They've been this way for decades.  My father was absorbing and repeating this kind of nonsense at least as early as the beginning of the 90s.  I assume he got it mostly from AM radio in the pre Fox News days.  The only thing that changed was that Trump came along and the rest of the party and associated media learned that they didn't have to be as 'subtle' (if you could call it that) as they had been before.  It was okay to just go on all out attack, and when you get called out on it just say "yeah...and?".

There's only one step left for them to take, and that's to just move into completely overt Nazi-level hate speech on the public stage.  They're already pretty close with things like 'replacement theory';

Don't ask me what the indoctrination actually is though, because I have no idea.

Children's sports.

The reason the GOP opposes CRT and social emotional learning is that they're both forms of education. The GOP hates education

Actually the KKK has hated SEL for decades. You can't teach hate as easily if your kids are being taught to be nice to everyone, even those darn ni*BONG!*ers.

After I read his book and posted this in a few relevant threads, I specifically noted that Republicans would crap their pants at the thought of teaching kids to control their anger. Or something pretty close to that, anyway.

Nailed it.

This isn't about your defective relationship with your boomer parents. This is about taking care of kids today. So bury your baggage and focus on helping the ones growing up now. SEL is good and necessary.

Conservatives learn early how to be conservative.  They are the bullies on the playground that never listened to mom when she told them to be nice to other people.  They are the ones that refuse to compromise during playtime.  Every peer group has at least one or two people who clearly never learned "how to be nice to others" when they were still in diapers.

Yeah, as TFA mentioned, there have been some advocacy groups complaining about it since April, so I'm surprised that it's taken quite so long for it to rise to the top of issues that rendering undergarments into interesting topologies.

With the distance I currently have from the public school system, it seems very silly to me that parents are getting all worked up about not just teaching kids how to solve for where two functions intersect, but also things like "You are smart enough to figure this out," "Nobody here is too stupid for math," and "Here's what you can do if you get frustrated trying to solve this problem."

Then again, I remember my parents completely losing their shiat in the 1990s when the school guidance councilor wanted to do a self-esteem program with my fifth grade class that contained such satanic concepts as "Tell yourself that you are smart enough to solve the problem" and "Close your eyes and visualize how you might handle the situation you're facing." (The program had a mascot, you see, and closing your eyes and imagining things was suspiciously close to meditation, so if you closed your eyes and imagined the mascot that was basically invoking a spirit guide and therefore inviting demons to come possess you.)

Anyway, I have a kid on the way now, so I'm probably going to have to deal with some of this stupid more directly in the next decade, and I can't say I'm looking forward to it.

Now, now, now...how can they be good, upstanding MAGAs if they understand how to manage their emotions, or to process Interpersonal data in a social setting soas to be able to establish a rapport framework to communicate effectively?

That is no way to raise a future Driver's Side Truck Ranting Video Patriot now, is it?

Learning critical thinking also makes people less likely to spend money they don't have on things they don't need, such as moar gunz.

The last thing the MAGAt psychopaths want is for children to grow up with empathy for others. That would be an extinction-level event for an ideology premised on selfishness and hatred.

Gotta nip that in the bud!

I didn't pay nearly so much attention in the 90s as I do now but, I know something big changed between the time we had Ross Perot insisting the GOP wasn't conservative enough and the time they turned into the MAGA movement.  I'm not sure how that line went from A to B as fast as it did.

The War on Terror galvanized fear in a way that was unique.  It, for a moment, brought Americans together... and has been tearing us apart ever since.  Fear is a motivating factor all its own and, in my opinion, the entire MAGA movement is fear-driven.  Afraid of irrelevancy, afraid of losing dominance/control, afraid of American supremacy slipping away despite their generation robbing the piggy bank in a manner worthy of Russian oligarchs.

My Mother in law tried spewing this crap the other day when my son was helping out at their house doing yard work. He looked at her and said, do you think there are dozens of trans kids in every school looking to overtake sports as some sort of political message? Most kids just look to get through the day without some jock or MAGAteen being a dick to them. My mother in law was concerned that he's been indoctrinated by them.
