100 seconds to midnight? Might want to move the time forward about 30 seconds or so...

Not to mention that we've basically trained for 60 odd years now to specifically murder Russia in a global conflict.

i know its a really super terribly bad idea and all but there is a little bit of me that wants to see our military just crush the russians

our combined arms and air superiority would make some great booms.

MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) has long been the nuclear policy of the nuclear armed world.  Any talk of "limited nuclear war" is naïve.

If Russia uses (I assume) a tactical nuke in Ukraine, there will not be a nuke response from the West - it will just be the end of Russia.  No one will be allowed to trade with them and everything will be closed off, ports and the internet. Anyone who continues to trade with them will result in the same response - NO TRADE.

NO PARTICIPATION IN THE WORLD'S ECONOMY!!!

There isn't much left to crush, though, judging by the Ukranian kill count at this point.

This means that the movies where an insane general or hackers start a nuclear war is now more possible. The people in the bunkers would not suspect the orders to launch right now. They would think Putin went mad(er).
:(

Lavrov says Russia's foreign policy doctrine is an "open document".

Is he saying that Russia is abandoning the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty (1970)?

Because China, England, France and the USA might have something to say to Russia about that. As Blinken appears to be doing.

Name me one country that could continue trading with them if the Western World said "NO?"

China wouldn't dare, their GDB is beholdant to the West's consumers.

Lets all hope to everything that no nukes get deployed.  And assume that at least two will.  The humanitarian disaster will be obscene, and if people think the current supply chain issues are bad, oh my lord.

Get some canned food, some dry food, and three days of water.  And iodine pills.  Of course, people should have had the first three all their lives, and cycled through it, but I'm old and that opinion is equally old.

Then be calm, and carry on supporting Ukraine in their fight in whatever small ways you can.

Fark Nazis.

I do not thinks so.  The official policy would be no trade, but sure the trade would continue because there really is no law in China, just what-we-can-get-away-with.

China might be the biggest trading partner for many Western Nations but there are ever so many smaller countries with wages low enough for the West to move their production to.

I don't think the West would use nukes in retaliation either. I don't think we'd need to - massive conventional strikes would be enough. We could sink their entire Black Sea fleet in a matter of minutes.

I'm pretty sure the Ukrainians would retain control of Ukraine.

Probably the stupidest imaginable response to Putin's threat is to respond that "Yeah, we will too."

You know what's a better response?  "If you even attempt to fire a nuke, targeting any place on the planet at all, you will be met with an immediate invasion force that will consist of UN members, as well as every other country with a survival instinct.  You will be forcibly removed from power and charged with war crimes."

Considering that Russia has essentially decimated their own army, and therefore their ability to wage war, it wouldn't take very long to completely steam roll them.

Threatening them with a nuclear response is nothing but dick wagging.  Dangerous dick wagging at that.

2022-09-26 9:15:35 AM
If their nukes were as meticulously maintained as the rest of Russia's armaments, everyone should be afraid.  VERY afraid.

If they use one nuke, they're willing to use more. Especially if NATO puts boots on the ground and, in Putin's mind, validates everything he's been saying about how the West is coming to destroy Russia. I don't see how it stops at one (or even just the use of "tactical" weapons).

I'm not sure I agree with either the prediction or the notion that it would be the correct response, but the answer to your question is literally in the post you're replying to.

Did you mean to ask a different or more specific question?

If he's launching nukes you honestly think he's going to care about an "invasion force"?

He'll target all bases and obliterate them.

The only response to nukes is...  nukes.

But he does not care either way, if he pulls the trigger. I think everyone should be afraid that he has moved his base to his mega mansion hideout lair with gigantic underground bunker.
