Looking like that he could probably play Barney Miller right now. It's not like they did much moving around on that show.

More power to him.  It's important to have something worth getting out of bed for.

So out of the 12th precinct it is just him and Max Gail that are left?

He's 91, so he's probably slow enough as it is.
I will not look that good at 91. I won't look that good at 81.

TIL Bernie Koppel is still kicking it.  Learning Hal Linden is too is the cherry on top.  Two faves that rarely make the news, so I just assumed I had missed their obits.

Capt. Barney Miller: Take these things. Have them analyzed and fast.

[Harris takes a bite out of a brownie]

Capt. Barney Miller: Not *that* way!

The hash brownie episode is one of the funniest things I've ever seen on a sitcom and the tribute to Jack Soo is one of the most bittersweet.

I was probably six or seven when that episode first aired, and my mother was just losing it.  I was too young to understand it all, but Jack Soo and the gang made me giggle like mad.  I always loved Ron Glass as Harris.

Barney: "Are you OK to function?"
Harris: "Sharp as a tack, baby!"

The writers and the actors were all brilliant.  The offhand comments from Fish were always gold.

I read an interview many years ago where Abe Vigoda detailed.why Fish was always tired.  He had met either the casting director or one of the producers right at a restaurant that was at the end of his daily jog.  He shows up worn from jogging and had commented that he was tired.  Brainstorm -- Fish should always be tired!

I just finished binge watching the series. Don't know what made me decide to do it but it was still great. Lots of progressive thinking on the show. Gay tolerance, support for the homeless and vets effected by Agent Orange, laws about surrogacy, freedom of speech, the mental impact of the job, etc. Barney tried his best to guide people to work things out but was fed up with the way that they were treated by Internal Affairs. One hell of a great show.

Yeah, unlike the standard sitcoms, it took a lot from the news of the time and made it work.  Usually didn't come down on one side or the other but used humor to look at the various sides of a question.  Quality writing; I think Linden once said there was kind of an unspoken agreement among them that if it started to suck, they'd pull the plug on it - uncommon for a TV series .

And they did pull the plug when they realized they were starting to repeat themselves. Better to go out strong than run it into the ground (i.e., the Chuck Lorre School of Television Production).

I always thought Harris was trying to be gay until I read he was a black guy trying to act white.  Rewatching it, I finally got the gag.
