The whole "and she's a lawyer, teehee" thing just seems...distasteful and demeaning.

She's an unkillable rampage machine and now she's filing Writs of Mandamus? Not even that...because she's just walking around in halls and talking to people.

Ugh, toxic fandom. Sounds like She-Hulk "Sorry Incels, you need to go get laid to understand" fans are turning into Rick and Morty "Sorry, you must be intelligent to understand" fans?

It was clear to me on day 1 the show wasn't written for me, a cis male, but I've enjoyed the show so far. Poor Jen can't catch a break. It's fun.

Pretty much the same idea as Harvey Birdman, or so it seems to me.

I don't have Disney+ and thus haven't seen it, but Harvey Birdman was funny.

The number of articles about a show that use the term "incel" is directly proportional to how ass that show is.

It's a legal comedy drama set in a superhero universe, where the comedy is derived from a main character who is thrust into situations despite her better efforts.

In other words a superhero sitcom.

I enjoy its relative irreverence for the super hero genre.

The wedding episode was weak and all over the place, but I have otherwise enjoyed it.  Tatiana Maslany deserves the bulk of the credit for the show's success, with nearly any other actress it would be considerably worse.

I'm just ready for them to get to more of the superhero lawyering they keep promising.  The latest episode, to me, was a HUGE jump backward with the whole "always a bridesmaid, never a bride" crap.  I mean, yeah, I can understand that they already blew through their CGI budget (the twerking episode showed this) and are now down to the "bottle episode at a borrowed house to avoid hefty location fees" phase has come around, but a courtroom set would have been just as cheap and letting Jen tackle the case her buddies tackled instead would have been far better than what the hell we got.

Ok, just on that quote I googled the book and bookmarked the wikipage.  No idea if I'll ever read it (the wiki had more and better quotes), but it sounds like a hoot.

Consider the "you're ruining my childhood by putting someone who wouldn't be allowed in my segregated neighborhood in a sequel to my childhood movies".  You can't win.  Can't we just ignore them?

To be fair... so far you can ignore the prequel aspect and it's a decent stand-alone story of how a child became a rogue and will soon become a spy.  Kind of a mix of Blade Runner and a cold war East German spy/action thriller.

Eh. I appreciate that it was made at all. But it's just...bland. I can't get into it.

I don't even know that I would say it is "something a bit different". It's a Marvel property combined with a decidedly mediocre dramedy. I guess that's never been done before, but it's not exactly breaking new ground.

And this will get me in lots of trouble: I've always thought Tatiana Maslany was a boring actress. They could've done better, I think.

It just seems weird that Blandor was the guy they chose to spin off for a flashback; he was maybe the least interesting thing in Rogue One, and intriguing characters like these are available:

And the number of random things shown on Fox "newz" kinda precludes if you are upset about these things, you are an incel, or a russian internet troll.

It's a vicious cycle, but are we really going to blame normal people for being upset about blatant stupidity? I can gaurentee you, the second we all calm down with accusations of being stupid, the oxygen enters the riom again for the 4chan gang just to suck it all back up and fart out more toxic gas.

I sometimes struggle to understand the whole incel thing.

Just taking the portmanteau at face value -- involuntary celibate -- it's someone who is celibate and not by choice.

Is there some sort of extra implied "involuntary celibate and angrily, blindly and wronging blaming everyone and everything but their own personal failings" implication that goes along with the word incel? Obviously inclusive of misogyny?

Thankfully I'm now married to Mrs. Polish, and we have a healthy home life, so I've been far from celibate for upwards of a decade. But the combination of my mom basically saying she hated men throughout my childhood, myself and my father included, and a general lack of self-esteem it took me into my 20s to fix, meant I was involuntarily celibate, inasmuch as I tried with women but was truly hopeless due to a combination of the lack of self-esteem and a guilt about simply liking girls that was baked in by my upbringing. I wasn't the type to angrily lash out at others about it, though. If anything, my celibacy furthered my lack of self-esteem to such that it was depressing to the point where I considered self-harm.

It doesn't feel like those are the "incels" this sort of thing is aiming at, but I do wonder if there are some of those types out there who might take a message like this the wrong way.

I have not watched the show, nor do I have any interest in it. Just not my cup of tea really. I can not disagree with the article's primary arguments. Yes ads are targeted to demo of 18-34 males, and yes there is a very vocal group of incels that rage on the internet (drowning out the majority in most cases). They rage at everything and anything, no matter how trivial.

Yet to see the Rings of Power (traveling) but do see daily the incel rage on my phone when opening a new tab on my browser. Certain sites in particular, clickbait sites, that get promoted by Google. All I need do is show the slightest interest in a topic by doing a Google search or visiting a website, then Google will promote these clickbait trash in my "feed". It is about this time I just want the internet to die, such stupidity, such uselessness (why oh why do I keep getting news in my feed about Marvel movies)

They might have started out merely upset (with women, the world, themselves) that they couldn't get laid, but they've spent years teaching each other to score points within their community by building their identity around their despairing boners, turning insecurity into pathology and fantasies into hateful ideology. (see e.g. https://www.newyorker.com/culture/cultural-comment/the-rage-of-the-incels)

At this point the "incel" label is pretty specific to that bunch of schmucks; kind of the same way you wouldn't describe someone as a "national socialist" just because they're patriotic and progressive.

I hate the "gate keeper" mentality of fans. I have several fandoms. Transformers, GI Joe, Star Wars, Marvel. Star Trek, etc. I might like most but not all of what each has to offer.

Star Trek I like the films mostly but enjoy TOS, TNG, DS9, Enterprise, the and my  fav series Lower Decks. Haven't watched SNW yet and Discovery was not for me. I don't biatch and moan about it wanting it cancelled. I just shrug and go "meh not for me".

I personally have enjoyed She-Hulk. Just light fluffy fun. Nice variety in each shows D+ has done.

If I don't like a new product for a fandom I just go "not for me. Pass. I'll see what is up next time."

And claim to be victims of ceaseless persecution as they do it, too.

Hell, look at the person above, claiming if they don't watch a show they'll be called sexist for it. It's like, holy shiat, dude, climb down off your cross. Pre-emptively declaring your victim status for something that's never happened to you and never will is pathetic.

No one gives a shiat if you don't watch a show. It's when you make your hatred for a show you don't even watch your entire identity and you get upset about women talking about their experiences or whatever that you get called out.

As someoneelse said, I'm glad these people are so eager to self-identify.

The reason I hated Big Bang Theory is because of how the gatekeeping mentality adopted it as a barometer.  If you didn't wear 'retro' gaming/comic shirts, you suddenly weren't a geek, etc.

Fark that.
