Reminds me of camping as a kid. With 5 kids and 2 adults, my mom would start packing a week before we left. Her checklist was magnificent.

My ex used to pack more than that for a day trip to the beach.

By Mary Roach (thus a must read already).

But very little of it really covers "packing for Mars".  Look for "how space travel effects the human body" instead.

Yeah, except with six kids and it all had to fit in the Falcon van. The tent, ground cloth, mattresses and sleeping bags were all stacked behind the third row bench.  We could get the Colman tent set up in 15 minutes, including inflating the mattresses.

Could have saved 3/4 the volume if they'd been feeding suet based iron rations. Fast three days before launch to go keto, leave behind a bunch of unnecessary retained water, then pop a few fat and beef cubes now and then over the next week. Instead they had a constant supply of oatmeal. Oatmeal! It's a step up from grass for nutrients.

There was a good short story about asteroid mining on Levar Burton Reads awhile back. I forgot the title,  but the main character is basically an atrophied husk on a seriously minimum level of life  support with extremely limited everything in order to survive the long journeys to the targeted asteroids.
