I've done some research on this. I tried gathering data from coworkers by leaving notes inside their purses and taped inside the women's bathroom stalls. No answers.

So I tried a random sampling of strangers. I'd sit on a park bench with a notepad and stare as they walked by, taking notes about who seemed to be good candidates. I'd make sure they saw me so they knew they were candidates! When I found one, I'd wait for her to get distracted then come up close behind her and announce myself with heavy breathing. When she turned, I would tell her I'd been watching her

Never did get to ask my research questions. I'll have to think of new methods.  Maybe a mask so they don't know I'm a guy?

Abnormal eye-contact is the number one thing that gets one labeled as creepy.
If you want to approach a woman, walk up to her and say something. Don't watch her for 10 minutes trying to decide if you're going to approach or not. Because after 10 minutes of staring, you're so deep into creepy you might as well give up and go home.

I would also add 'standing too close when talking' as a good way to get labeled as creepy. Do not invade personal space when talking to a woman you want to know better.  It's annoying when anyone does it, but if it happens after you've been staring at her for 30 minutes, you'll be so deep into 'creepy' territory you'll never find your way out.

Not enough eye contact
The right amount of eye contact but at the wrong time

Talking too little
Talking the right amount but about the wrong things

Having bad posture
Having too good of posture
Attempting to stand in a relaxed and normal posture

Being there
Not being there
Being there but at all the wrong times

Being too aggressive
Not being aggressive enough
Being aggressive but at the wrong time about the wrong things

I hope i cleared things up for yall

Two recent experiences with creepy people:

One guy that just stopped and stared at me intensely like I was something good to eat for a good 20 seconds. Staring intensely in a predatory way is uncomfortable and makes me want to get away from you.

There's another guy that pesters the female employees and keeps asking after one in particular. Exhibits a lot of stalkerish behaviors.

And FTA: 2. Unwanted contact on social media

Repeated unwanted contact sure but how are people supposed to know you're not interested unless that try to make contact?

Almost all of it can be gathered under the heading, "lack of social skills".  They know what they want but have no understanding of how to approach another human being as a peer in an interaction that might not go the way they want it to.

Whether it's the quiet leering guy in the corner or the aggressive ass who won't take no for an answer, no self-confidence or unending supplies of it, I suspect the commonality is that they're self-centered and unable to consider (or at least care) about how the object of their attention feels.

One great ice breaker is to always have some hard candies in your pocket.  A lady or a fella will instantly warm to a stranger offering them a warm pocket candy during an introduction.

If that doesn't work, I suggest trying to guess their weight and before they answer wrap your arms around them in a big ole bear hug and lift them off the ground to try and confirm your guess. People like hugs and they is a great way to give one.

And lastly conplement them in what you assumed they looked like as a child, "why I bet you were the prettiest girl in 4th grade or strongest boy."  Who doesn't like a trip down memory lane with a new friend ?

Strongly disagree.   Jelly Babies are soft.  Pro tip - while these days they come in plastic packaging like everything else, they're properly purchased from a sweets shop's bulk supplies and wrapped in paper.

I have this dimly lit friend, good car mechanic, but other than that...
We were in Chinatown around midnight looking in the window of a live poultry place at the cages of chickens and ducks.  A giggle of college girls stopped and looked in the window, not yet at the point of realization.  "What is this place?" one of them asked me.
I was still trying to formulate a non-threatening answer when my friend turns to them and says "How would you like it if they killed your children?"
They moved away hastily.
He came off as creepy.

Try complimenting the person you're hoping to attract. Something like "You smell so different when you're awake" will really break up the tension.

In order to approach a man, you sidle up to him from the side. But if you're approaching a woman, you must talk to her head-on for least creepiness.

And if the first question out of your mouth is not "What is your name? How are you tonight? Do you like this music?" but instead some form of "Do you have a boyfriend or a husband?" - you are a creep. Go back to your basement.

Janitor, not cafeteria staff.  Super-sleezy looking, too.  No idea how he got hired in the first place.
