...and they could have gone for 100 but kneed it on the two-point conversion. At least they weren't rubbing it in that much.

Bonus:   the game doesn't count in any meaningful way, unless one of SFA's players got injured running.

Would have if it went the other direction.

Does this kind of matchup do EITHER side any good?

Forget the score.  What the article really should have explained was what a FCS school was doing even scheduling a NAIA opponent.  There could be no glory in victory and only humiliation in defeat.

The five levels of college football (FBS, FCS, D2, NAIA, and D3) should all be self-contained. In other words, no scheduling games outside your level.

But then how will you chalk up easy wins?

should give some sort of handicap if they insist on playing these ridiculously lopsided match ups, like making all players on the better team play with one arm tied inside their jersey

Is this a home school college?

$. Warner was willing to sacrifice their dignity in exchange for enough $ to buy a new milk dispenser for the cafeteria and possibly a ping pong table for the student rec center.

One, is NAIA considered in general above D3?   I guess i wasnt aware of that, but, I don't follow things in those lower levels much (even though we have one of the top NAIA teams here in St Francis (IN)).

But, two, beyond that.... it does seem like any DI level team (FBS or FCS) scheduling an NAIA team is borderline like playing a high school team... I'd say overall they are closer to them than even the worst D I programs?

FTFA: The last FBS team to score 98+ points was when Houston beat Tulsa 100-6 on Nov. 23, 1968. That was the most points scored against a major college opponent in FBS history.

I was in college in 1991 when Fresno State beat UNM 94-17 [abqjournal.com].

Who would Alabama schedule outside the $EC?

I think there are a few schools outside of the NCAA.  Cal Tech is one (don't be surprised if the janitor comes to bat, but I think there's a rule that everybody has to move around at least a little bit.  Full bore nerd life isn't healthy, and probably natural for those guys), and I'm guessing that St. Mary's in Annapolis is another (their only cross-college game is vs. Navy in croquette*).

/* might be out of date
// heard about it in the 1990s
/// this slashie suspended for PED use (discovered after drug testing a croquette match)

The reason that those such a solution is intended to protect, and fully looks like it does from the outside, would adamantly fight against it is that those at lower levels fund their entire athletic departments from the payouts received from those a level above them. One assumed beating by the football team permits that football program to exist along with everything else in an athletic department.

A lot more could be written on this but that is the simplified version.

You mean now that Scott Frost has left Nebraska?  Tricky question...

In pro sports I always want the score run up as far as possible, it's entertainment, college and below should have mercy rules after 3rd quarter
