Missed the launch, but caught the landing.  Having watched launches from the first Mercury missions on, SpaceX is getting it right.  Throwing away millions (Billions SLS, eh?) of dollars worth of hardware is a thing of the past. Hopefully, SLS will launch or blow up soon and Starship will finally get the permits to take the next step in space ship operation.

My PC is so old it can not display YouTube videos above 480p without dropping lot of frames. And it's on a wired connection. My TVs on wireless can both do 4K with no problem (for 4K vids/streams)

I blame all the Windows overhead.

Here's the updated list of successful SpaceX Missions. I've realigned the dates and order for upcoming flights. Last year was a record, with Thirty-One missions.  There are currently 69 listed so far for this year, with more Starlink missions to come! We can count on several of these slipping into 2023 or later, for any one of myriad reasons, but 2022 is already another record year.  SpaceX's launch cadence is about one launch every 6.2 days so far.  That puts them on pace to hit 59 missions this year. We'll see if they can maintain that rate.

just saw the meteorologist I used to work with at my old TV station tweeted out a picture of it flying in the skies over NEPA a little while ago. I did not know of the launch or that we would be able to see it on the east coast and I'm really, really annoyed right now

They are mostly for lighting protection.

Since they are there, they also get used for things like holding up cameras.  I expect there are vibration sensors on them as well.  Other groups will use those types of towers to spray water to keep the sound vibrations down a bit.

Anyway...  I watch any launch that I know is coming up.  I always look to the south in hopes of seeing something.  I never do.

And here...  I had no idea a launch was happening.  I just happened to be sitting on the front porch, and saw this approaching.  In all my years, I've never seen anything like THIS, and so low in the sky, this far from the launch site.

It was exactly as freaky as you can hear in my running commentary.

By the way, sorry it uploaded to YouTube sideways.  I filmed in landscape.  YouTube didn't seem to understand that.  Shut up and rotate your phone.

Delta IV uses American engines. Atlas V uses Russian.

Are you implying that what I saw was not the primary booster but something that cut loose?  And they are just not telling us about that?

What you are seeing is very high, already outside the bulk of the atmosphere. It only looked low in the sky from your location because it was so far beyond the horizon that the curvature of the earth comes into play.

From here in SoCal I can actually see the entry burn from a Falcon 9 on the horizon on a clear night. Well, I can see the first three or four seconds of the ten second burn, and then it drops below the horizon. First time I saw it I thought it was the landing burn, but no, it's still in space, just very far away.

Wasn't there a rumor about how if you wanted to put project MARAUDER in sat form you would need a really large cluster because with current tech you just can't generate enough microwave energy from a single satellite? Or some such nonsense. Or it could be something other than a microwave + plasma doom weapon. Lol
