It's really more like 850, if you count the private, X-rated ones.

651 then.

Funny thing about him: I never really understood his meme-worthiness or appeal until recently. Then I watched Peacemaker and a few other things and I get it. He's got the same "rubberfaced everyman" appeal of a lot of comedic actors, except he can do action comedy because of his physique.

Then I started hearing about him and found out he's just a fantastic person overall. I like discovering that about people. I had read a while back about how much he did for Make-A-Wish and that sealed it. Most of that make-a-wish stuff can be very simple photo-op PR stuff. But for PR, he'd do a few a year. But this motherfarker has done so many that you know he really wants to bring joy.

Hella respect for John Cena based on that.

Oh please. He folded to China faster than a cheap suit because he was terrified of getting banned from the country and losing out on a ton of money. That could have been a moment when he stood up and did the right thing despite the financial cost, but he's spineless. Same deal with performing in Saudi Arabia until he was called out for that and worried that his reputation at home would take a hit.

All he cares about is money.

You don't have to be "morally perfect" to know that China are a bunch of tyrannical douchebags and that Taiwan is a separate sovereign nation that shouldn't be threatened with invasion for the past 70+ years.

Just ask the people of Hong Kong.

Oh no, he did what pretty much everybody else in Hollywood would've done, so that instantly cancels out the 650+ things he did that pretty much no one in Hollywood would've done I guess.

This is such a lame and tired take. World governments and the UN won't even stand up to China in regards to Taiwan but we definitely need to get mad at a professional wrestler over it. JFC.

He's sort of like The Rock, if The Rock had comedic ability or dramatic chops or self awareness and also didn't get his wrestling career from his poppa after he washed out of two different countries' worth of football leagues.

So nothing like The Rock, I guess.

Good for him for the Make-a-Wish work.  He doesn't have to do that so good on him.  I just wish he was less of a apologist for a genocidal and aggressive nation like China.  I understand he earns a lot of endorsement money there which explains him turning a blind eye to his paymasters misdeeds.

It's not a universal rule, but generally people who can genuinely make fun of themselves aren't assholes.  Assholes tend to be intolerant to being laughed at.

So if all I knew about Cena was his role in Peacemaker, I'd already be willing to lay odds that he's a decent guy.

Holding Cena to a lower standard because others have made a similar transgression is specious reasoning. A lot of Hollywood celebrities are banned from China because of their support for the Dalai Lama. Cena's cravenness is hardly as universal as you claim.

It's playing out storylines, is it not? It's not like Cena actually bested the Undertaker.

You are correct, but it's still an accomplishment due to good acting and athlete skill...it's reflection that management realizes that you are popular with the fans.

And IMHO, it is a damn shame that Roddy Piper never had the WWF Championship.

I realize this but it still feels weird. It's like everyone is in on the fakeness but still acts like it's real (to me, damnit).

It's like that guy who gets invited on Fox and weaes his bekt over his shoulder during interviews. "Hey, look at my shiny, oversized belt that my employer bestowed upon me for being popular".

He reminds me a lot of Jim Varney. In that I mean he can play serious or comedic roles with ease and damned if that guy can't riff out of his own back pocket. The fact that he's just an all around nice guy just puts a cherry on top. That said, I had watched the 1st episode of Peacemaker waiting for it to be a giant turd with him in it. My jaw hit the floor. Then I went to Mrs. God about it and she wasn't interested because she thought he was some kinda hack.... After 2 episodes of Peacemaker she couldn't stop watching and became a big fan. Sure we're not interested in the pro wrestling side of things, but damned if that dude doesn't have some acting chops...
