I'll give the kids this one.

When we Gen Xers realized what the Boomers had done, we retreated into ourselves and just apathetically accepted it by saying "Whatever."

These kids are not doing that. They are angry and are fighting.

The millennials in the middle? I guess the jury is still out.

Eventually these kids that have been bullied, marginalized, and dismissed by the powers that be are gonna vote. It is astonishing that so few politicians seem to get this. You should be nurturing and guiding them, not shutting them out and deriding them.

Nothing was more confusing to boomers than an autistic girl more concerned with the future than her appeal to men.
They hate what they don't understand.

Ugh I hate that people still believe all we have to do is wait for boomers to die. There are plenty of shiatty people in young generations, especially in the power broker class, the people that actually grow up to make decisions in business and in office

Well they had OWS which... yanno seemed a little silly at the time but it certainly got people talking about wealth disparity and the sheer scumbaggery of hose in control of the economy... which also neatly ties into this new environmentalist movement.

Toss in the BLM folks and what is sure to be a brand new wave of feminism and... well, the world may actually change for the better.

Too bad it's too late.

They'll survive but it's gonna suuuuuuuck.

He was Clinton's VP when he sent jobs overseas, cut corporate taxes ,cut benefits for the poor after Gore  being known for his greatest blunder (PMRC). His book then movie didn't come out until he failed to win. He wasn't a hero. The party tried to create one afterwards which became a trend. Maybe running good candidates instead of beholden  ones would have been better?

Our big issue was the ozone hole with a side of DDT/lead. Global overpopulation for anxiety dessert. Oh and global thermonuclear warfare. Which is also back in the public consciousness these days!

A few scientists and notably Sagan were beginning to talk about global warming as a thing.

But yeah. I hope they're better than we were. That's a low bar

I didn't say "we elected George W. Bush." I said "the election happened." And it ended with the Supreme Court stealing the election for George W. Bush. And everyone just deciding that this was fine. And then all of the protests and upheaval of the 90s, and the hope that came with it, evaporated.

The owner class made their will and power known. They'll always win, until we use violence against them.

Those were great examples of how if we actually DO something about a problem collaboratively as a species when doing something might actually make difference WORKS!!!

CC was indeed mostly academic in the early days but I remember my awesome science teacher telling us about that stuff in the late 80's.

When David Suziki threw his hands in the air and said "It's too late. We're all f*cked. I TOLD YOU!!!" I knew sh*t was goan get weird.

That was ten years ago.

Oh and ya... Sagan went on quite a bit in his Cosmos series about CC. I think those came out in the late 70's and the book of course even earlier.

He did a bunch of updates to the series too discussing exactly what had changed from when it first aired like ten years later or so before he died.

No, we mean Gore literally won in Florida. When the recount was completed, he won. Whether you counted dimpled ballots or hanging chads or you didn't, however you counted, in every scenario, he won.

Unless your point is that he should have won by a bigger margin?

Why is it that the rubes always complain about NAFTA and blame Clinton even though negotiations for it started in the Reagan admin, lasted through GHWB, and was ratified at the start of the Clinton admin with more Republican votes in both the House and Senate?

Did he congratulate Bush? Did he move on? This idea of not accepting the loss led to "She won the popular vote!" and " What happened". I don't know about the rest of Gen-X, but there was also a huge bit that somehow the boomers/silent gen/greatest hadn't manged to blow up the world and that we had a chance to live an adult life.  It wasn't a question of how much they screwed it up, it was time to go out and live.

Maybe we should have questioned the state of the world more.  But the huge difference between the irradiated world we were expecting (and certainly the Reagan administration had been working hard to arrange that.  Had to replace every defensive capability with first strike weapons) and the world we got probably took too much an edge off.

Youth of today have known that global warming has been a fact (and known scientifically since at least the mid 90s, probably much earlier*) all their lives and have been watching as us earlier generation willfully kill the planet.  It is a bit different, watching the murder process as opposed to waiting for the one moment when they murder the world all at once.

And Bush won Florida, which meant he won in a system of 50 state elections rather than 1 national one.

Clinton racked up the score in California but it didn't change the results of Wisconsin or Michigan or Pennsylvania.
