Maybe because it was a song off a new Monkees album in 2016?

Fans of that band don't want new music.  They want the three or four songs from the olden days.

The A&R guy in my head gave it 9 seconds and then frisbee'd it into the circular file cabinet.

I'd ridicule him, but he's been dead for a couple years, and this is just a cheap cash grab to pay the mortgage on his grave

For Peter Tork this was the worst day ever, but for me it was just another Pleasant Valley Sunday.

Holy cree-ap, this article worked overtime on the "You won't believe this one song that Peter Tork believed would do this one thing" construct.

Everybody changes the world a little bit. If you want to have more of an effect, look where the world is going and get in front of it. That's more the world changing you, but the history books or your family's Christmas newsletter won't know any different.

The Monkees still get a lot of flack for being a corporate-conceived, commercial answer to The Beatles but I've always thought the surprising thing about them is that, through a decent amount of talent and a lot of hard work, they collectively became a real band, maybe even pop music's answer to Pinocchio. Granted, there's nothing profound about their work, but an album like "Headquarters" still holds up pretty well. And if memory serves, that's the first one where they played all their own instruments and wrote most of the songs.

Several years ago I read Mickey Dolenz's book about his days as a Monkee and he had a pretty good perspective on it, saying it was a fun time and that he hoped the show and the songs entertained people and that the audience enjoyed their work as much as he and the others did making it. I mean, nobody's ever gonna confuse "Head" with Dark Side of the Moon or the White Album but it's still worth a listen once in a while.

It's something called "A Better World" from whatever album they released in 2016, several decades after they were last relevant.

Their output from Headquarters through the Head soundtrack had some absolute jems. They ended up writing and playing on songs with the likes of Carole King and The Wrecking Crew, that's nothing to be ashamed of.

My favorite story is that they basically gave a writing credit to their engineer as a Thank You for putting up with their lack of experience in the studio. He got a nice check out of it.

It's a little known fact that Davey was a better drummer than Mickey but management was concerned that he couldn't be seen behind the kit since he was only 4'10".

Seeing them in '86 with my sister was nice, althought Mickey really had to handle all the vocals and Mike didn't show up until the last gig in LA, so we missed him.   Poor Davy was really not in good shape then and his voice was pretty shot.   It was sweet tho.    Head is a good cult-ish film.

I always forget the thinking -- Mike was supposed to be John, Davey was Paul, Mickey was Ringo and Peter was Zeppo, right?

My old radio station brought The Monkees to play a show here in Lexington back in 2000 and I got to meet the 3 (Nesmith wasn't with them). David was super cool and loved this area due to his interest and work  with horses and I got to hang with him at Keeneland for the day.  Peter was also super cool...so friendly with fans.  Mickey on the other hand?  Dolenz had always been my favorite of the band until I met him.  So disappointing.
